Meghan Markle, ahead of new Netflix show, acknowledges ‘mistakes’ in lifestyle reentry
For the Duchess of Sussex, the path back to her lifestyle roots was anything but straightforward.
Meghan Markle, who is known for her role in “Suits” and will soon be selling fruit preserves, spoke openly about her new business endeavors which include a Netflix series titled “With Love, Meghan” and her recently launched As Ever brand. In an interview with People published on Monday, Meghan shared that there are many unexpected developments in her latest projects, including the debate over the name of her brand.
“I was figuring it out in real time,” she added.
In a February announcement for her new lifestyle brand, As Ever, Meghan herself clarified in an Instagram post that the name symbolizes “the way things have been” or “consistently the same.” However, it seems that this consistency wasn’t applied to the brand’s own name.

Approximately a year ago, Meghan Markle hinted at the introduction of American Riviera Orchard, a lifestyle brand that embodied her passions such as family, cooking, entertaining, and home decoration. The name American Riviera Orchard was inspired by Santa Barbara, where Meghan and Prince Harry reside. In its initial phase, the brand unveiled a collection of fruit jams and sent them to famous personalities. However, several months later, the United States Patent and Trademark Office halted the business operations, allegedly turning down Meghan’s application to trademark the brand’s name. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office stated that American Riviera Orchard was predominantly geographically descriptive, according to Vanity Fair.
In February, the 43-year-old Duchess and mother of two shared with her followers that she acquired the name “As Ever” in 2022, expressing that moving away from her previous brand felt more open and less restrictive. When speaking to People, Meghan didn’t linger on the name change, but rather emphasized on “everyone who granted me the patience to stumble and learn, as well as being understanding towards myself during this process.
She added: “It’s a learning curve.”

After spending five years away from her role as a senior member of the royal family, Meghan Markle describes herself as an entrepreneur and founder, particularly in the female sector. Alongside her business ventures such as Netflix, Meghan mentioned that her children, Archie and Lilibet, are also active collaborators in her projects. She shared that both Archie, Prince Harry, and herself frequently visited the set of “With Love, Meghan,” a new reality series premiering on Netflix tomorrow. This show allows the Duchess to express her love for cooking and hosting, inviting several celebrity friends like Mindy Kaling and chef Roy Choi to join her in these endeavors.
Meghan expressed her hope that when they grow up, they’ll take pride in having been a part of the start of this journey with her.
