Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons, has been the main villain in the Transformers franchise since the very beginning. Similar to Optimus Prime, he’s famous for memorable lines throughout the various Transformers series, but his quotes are usually more menacing. This trend continued in the 2024 animated movie Transformers One, which unfortunately didn’t do well in theaters despite receiving good reviews.
Orion and D-16 began the story as best friends, but as events progressed, they drifted apart, becoming enemies. A hint of D-16’s future as a villain appeared soon after they learned that Sentinel Prime, the respected leader of Cybertron, was actually a traitor. He had killed the other Prime leaders and made a deal with the Quintessons. Both Orion and D-16 were shocked by this news, but they reacted to it in very different ways.
A Single Quote Changed Everything About Transformers One
D-16 trusted Sentinel’s leadership more than Orion did, so he was especially enraged by the betrayal. Orion started to think of a way to reveal Sentinel’s deceit, but D-16 dismissed the idea. “Don’t you want to stop him?” Orion asked. D-16 flew into a rage, shouting, “No! I want him dead! I want to capture Sentinel, put him in chains, and drag him through the mines for everyone to see! I want him to suffer and die alone in the dark!”
The scene had no music, letting the impact of D-16’s harsh words really sink in. This was especially shocking because the movie had been a cheerful, typical children’s film until then. It showed that D-16 was capable of the same kind of cruelty Megatron was known for, but his outburst didn’t feel random – it was clear there was a reason behind his anger.
Sentinel was a master manipulator who pretended to be a hero to benefit himself, while others suffered the consequences of his selfishness and lack of courage. D-16’s actions seemed more reasonable shortly after, when Alpha Trion revealed that Sentinel had stolen resources from many, reducing them to a powerless and obedient workforce. Sentinel deserved to be punished, although D-16 might have been taking his revenge too far.
D-16’s Hatred For Sentinel Prime Corrupted Him
A short conversation with D-16 dramatically shifted the film’s mood, making it much more intense. While this didn’t end Orion and D-16’s friendship – they did repair things and still cared for each other – it created a lasting change in their relationship. After this, D-16 started acting on his negative instincts more often.
Things really fell apart between them when, out of nowhere, Orion stepped in front of a blast meant for me. I was shocked – horrified, even – that I’d accidentally hurt him, but then I just…snapped. I yelled at Orion for interfering, for stopping me from finishing off someone we both despised. In a fit of rage, I left him to what I thought was certain death, and finally turned my attention to Sentinel. Forget the plan about the mines; I just lost it. I ripped Sentinel apart with my own hands, right there in front of everyone, and honestly, the crowd seemed… impressed, even awestruck. It was a brutal end, but I felt like I’d finally done what needed to be done.
D-16 started with good intentions, wanting to improve Cybertron, but his desire for revenge against Sentinel took over. This transformation into Megatron had been foreshadowed earlier in the movie when he vowed to kill Sentinel. It’s unfortunate that Transformers One didn’t do well at the box office, because it provided a great origin story for Megatron – one we likely won’t see again.
