Megan Thee Stallion gets restraining order on Tory Lanez claiming convicted rapper paid bloggers to smear her
On Thursday, Megan Thee Stallion secured a civil protective order against Tory Lanez, the musician who is currently imprisoned for ten years following an incident where he shot her approximately five years back.
Originating from Houston and currently 29 years old, the woman testified emotionally before Judge Richard Bloom in Los Angeles via remote connection. She claimed that during his period of misbehavior, Lanez, aged 32, had instigated a ‘series of harassment’ against her, according to Billboard’s report on Thursday.
In simpler terms, Judge Richard Bloom decided that Lanez is prohibited from reaching out to Megan directly or indirectly (through other people) over the next five years.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share that Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, expressed concern about the potential for retaliatory violence from DaBaby (real name: Dabratia Kevin Herbert) upon his release from custody.
Each day, it feels as though I’m compelled to reexperience the traumatic event, a burden I carry due to the individual who shot me. This person continues to haunt my thoughts, and I’m deeply concerned that once he’s released from prison, his anger towards me may not subside. A chilling fear grips me; could he shoot me again, this time with potentially fatal consequences?
The Grammy award-winner testified in court, stating that from his prison cell, Lanez had orchestrated a campaign aimed at causing her distress, which she described as an ongoing effort to frighten her. She simply expressed her exhaustion due to the persistent harassment.
According to Judge Bloom, Megan presented sufficient proof that Lanez made a genuine threat of violence which held no legal justification and was primarily meant to severely bother or intimidate her.
The singer of “Cry Baby” (who stated that she hasn’t experienced peace since the shooting incident in July 2020) expressed gratitude to the judge as the granting of the restraining order was acknowledged.
Lawyers for Megan asserted to the court that Lanez continued to mislead the public regarding the specifics of his legal case by spreading a false narrative on Twitter last autumn, alleging he had been found ‘not guilty’ in an appellate court, according to media reports.
In a federal lawsuit filed in October, Megan’s legal group stated that social media influencer Milagro Gramz was employed by Lanez during his incarceration to act as his spokesperson and marionette.
In December, Megan’s lawyers stated in court filings that Daystar Peterson, also known as Lanez, collaborated with others to intimidate, harass, and provoke her. They further explained that a protective order issued due to the shooting incident had become invalid following Lanez’s conviction.
In an effort to clear his name despite twisting facts and disregarding the truth carelessly, [Lanez] has sparked a wave of damaging, defaming, and hurtful comments about Megan. This is according to her legal representatives.
In legal documents, Lanez’s attorneys countered by stating that Megan is not in favor of free expression, and the petition for a restraining order appears to be an effort to manipulate the judicial system.
Lanez’s legal team stated, “Instead of countering the comments or engaging in a discussion about the topics… Megan has decided to employ the current trend of attempting to suppress through the legal system opinions that she finds disagreeable.
In December 2022, Lanez was found guilty of three charges: using a semi-automatic weapon for an assault, possessing an unregistered and loaded firearm in a car, and recklessly firing that firearm.
As I recount events from August 2023, I find myself sharing the news that I was sentenced to serve a 10-year term in prison by the Los Angeles Superior Court. This decision came on a Tuesday, following three felony convictions linked to an incident that transpired in the Hollywood Hills back in July 2020.
During the sentencing, Judge David Herriford stated that the favorable depiction of Lanez presented by his family and friends during the trial was “hard to align” with his actions towards Megan.
On occasion, even good individuals may commit wrongdoings, as Herriford put it to the court, according to AP. Actions often bring about repercussions, and unfortunately, no party emerges victorious in this situation.
During the court proceedings, Megan stated that Lanez fired shots at her feet and demanded she dance after she exited an SUV following a gathering at Kylie Jenner’s residence.
Originally choosing not to reveal Lanez as the shooter, Megan later revealed that she needed a surgical procedure to remove shards of bullets from her feet.
Ever since I was brutally wounded by the defendant, I haven’t known a moment of tranquility,” the songstress expressed in a statement read aloud before sentencing. “Gradually, I am mending and returning, but I will always bear the scars.
Before his sentence was announced, Lanez – who was looking at a potential imprisonment of up to 22 years – pleaded with the judge for leniency, expressing his remorse over the incident in retrospect.
In simpler terms, Lanez expressed to the judge that if he could rewind the sequence of events that occurred that night and make different choices, he would do so. He considers the victim as a friend whom he continues to care for deeply. Whatever mistakes he made on that fateful night, he takes complete accountability for them.
Lanez served a sentence of 10 months in prison, given that he had been detained since his conviction in December.
Lanez’s main attorney, Jose Baez, expressed deep disappointment with the verdict, believing it to be more about setting an example as a high-profile figure. However, he emphasized, “He’s not an example – he’s a human being.
Baez stated, “In some instances I’ve witnessed, such as vehicular homicide, the offender receives a sentence of under ten years even when there’s a fatality involved.
Lanez’s legal team plans to challenge the decision and request that he be granted bail while the appeal process is ongoing.
The prosecutors praised Megan for her courage in speaking up, despite facing online insults and ridicule following the incident with Lanez.
LA County District Attorney George Gascón expressed the hope that the courage displayed by Miss Pete might inspire others who feel powerless.
In a post for Elle magazine, published in August of 2023, Megan shared insights on valuable lessons learned following Lanez’s court verdict.
She expressed, “If you’ve experienced violence and lived through it, remember that your emotions are legitimate. You count. It wasn’t your fault. Your worth is significant. You are cherished. You are more than your experiences with trauma.
She went on to say, ‘Even when you find yourself in difficult circumstances, it doesn’t make you a flawed individual. The worth we hold isn’t determined by others’ views. So long as you stay strong and true to yourself, no one can strip you of your power.’
In response to the sentencing, Lanez declared in an Instagram post that he was not offering an apology to the singer.
In my recent reflections, I’ve chosen to own up to every word and intimate experience I had with those individuals. I’ve made a conscious decision to take accountability this week, acknowledging all our shared moments, plain and simple.
He went on to say, “I wasn’t expressing any regret for the accusations I’m incorrectly being charged with. My position remains firm: I will not apologize for something I didn’t commit… hardship doesn’t endure, strong individuals do.
