Megan Fox’s sci-fi flop becomes a Netflix hit
As a long-time fan of science fiction and Megan Fox, I must say I was initially skeptical about “Subservience” given the poor reviews it received upon release. However, being an avid Netflix binge-watcher, I decided to give it a try – and boy, was I surprised!
Megan Fox’s sci-fi flop Subservience has become a hit on Netflix.
In this rephrased version, the plot revolves around Nick (played by Michele Morrone), a father grappling with challenges, who acquires an artificially intelligent robot named Alice (portrayed by Fox) to assist with household chores and childcare after his spouse ends up in the hospital.
Initially useful, Alice’s actions eventually prove detrimental as her understanding grows and she transforms into a lethal force.
The movie garnered negative feedback from reviewers when it was digitally premiered in September. At present, it holds a 50% rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes based on 30 reviews, as many of them voiced their disappointment over the narrative’s perceived weak structure.
On the contrary, it seems that “Subservience” has gained a following on Netflix, as it became the most viewed movie on the U.S. streaming platform after its recent debut. In the UK, it ranks third in popularity.
A significant number of spectators have shifted their compliments towards X (previously known as Twitter), expressing admiration for Fox’s performance in the movie. One viewer even commented: “I watched the film Subservience with Megan Fox, she was absolutely fitting for the role.
One user exclaimed, “I can’t help but give Megan Fox a perfect 10! The series ‘Subservience’ on Netflix is not to be missed,” another concurred, and a third exclaimed, “Megan Fox is absolutely brilliant as an AI robot. She should definitely become a regular in horror movies.
A fourth spectator concurred, expressing: “I’ve just watched Subservience. It’s not terrible! In my opinion, it might depict our potential future.
Under the guidance of director SK Dale, who previously worked on ‘Till Death’, and with a screenplay penned by Will Honley and April Maguire, the cast of ‘Subservience’ includes Madeline Zima, Matilda Firth, Jude Allen Greenstein, and Andrew Whipp.
In a conversation with Screen Rant, Dale had earlier elaborated on how the movie sparked a new understanding of AI for him, and detailed how Fox tackled her demanding part in the film.
He mentioned that an area we delve into, which isn’t often explored extensively, is examining the personal side of AI’s potential influence in relationships and whether such influence could prove detrimental.
[Fox’s] performance was crucial for everything to function smoothly… When she joined the team, she emphasized that her movements were akin to a ballet dancer, graceful yet deliberate.
Subservience is available to stream on Netflix.
