Megan Barton-Hanson reveals she was bullied for her looks but after plastic surgery she has turned into the ‘Alan Sugar of stripping’

This young woman has experienced more than most in her years, yet she stands tall, unapologetically herself, and radiates an aura of strength that is truly inspiring.
Megan Barton-Hanson shared that having cosmetic surgery enabled her to transition from being bullied due to her appearance during her teenage years, into being comparable to Alan Sugar in the context of strip clubs. In simpler terms, she went from being ridiculed as a teenager for her looks to becoming a significant figure (like Alan Sugar) in the strip club world.
At 19 years old, the previous contestant from Love Island had her first plastic surgery procedure, which included a rhinoplasty (nose job) and an augmentation mammoplasty (breast enlargement).
On the 2018 season of the popular ITV dating program, Megan admitted that she had been teased about her nose and ears that stuck out during her school years. This bullying motivated her to alter her physical appearance.
Following the struggle to pay for a train fare to work in London from Essex, Megan shared her experiences with relationship advisor Paul Carrick Brunson on his We Need To Talk podcast.
Paul, aged 50, inquired: “After having the procedure to pin back your ears initially, what motivated you to undergo breast surgery at that point in your life?
Megan, from Essex, admitted: ‘I’ll be brutally honest – money.
In a more relaxed phrasing, the sentence could be: “I didn’t have any problems, I felt comfortable and proud of my natural breasts. However, there was a woman who was quite successful on social media, essentially emulating the Page 3 model lifestyle, yet she maintained control over her own business.
I recalled telling my initial partner, “Sweetheart, given how much wealth she’s earning, doesn’t it strike you that I might be more attractive? I genuinely believe I could achieve the same success if only I had larger breasts.
‘I wanted my nose done, that was another thing from school kids would pick on.
To avoid undergoing anesthesia, I plan to undergo cosmetic surgeries on both breasts (breast augmentation) and my nose (rhinoplasty), all in one procedure. This way, I can significantly boost my earnings, either through social media or by participating in publications like Page 3 (a section of British tabloids featuring glamour photos of women).
‘I wanted to be a glamour model, a Page 3 girl.
As a devoted follower, I found myself laboring in the heart of London, where my earnings merely covered the cost of my daily commute from Essex to the city, leaving me barely scraping by.
‘I was like, this can’t be what life is, surely.’
Megan was working as a Legal PA at the time, but decided to invest in breast surgery.
Following that, I couldn’t help but share every glimpse of her transformed appearance on my Instagram feed, donning barely-there outfits. It wasn’t long before her fanbase skyrocketed, well before she became a household name on Love Island.
After six years, she currently boasts over 1.4 million followers, and she expressed: “Instagram has been incredibly beneficial to me; I’ve seen my popularity soar mainly by sharing more provocative photos, which have garnered increasing approval.
After gaining popularity on social media, the reality TV celebrity sought additional financial growth by working at a nightclub offering adult entertainment.
She clarified: ‘The salary at the law firm was terribly low compared to the number of hours I was working. It simply wasn’t a fair compensation. Consequently, I didn’t have enough funds to enjoy my weekends.’
Initially, I was focusing on enhancing my appearance, yet the income I generated from Instagram didn’t cover my living expenses. As I walked by a strip club, the women outside seemed joyful and carefree, they were even chuckling. They exuded an undeniable charm and elegance.
‘I didn’t even tell my parents, I just walked in and said ‘hi, can I have a job?’
I had never set foot inside a strip club before, but from the outside it seemed that everyone within was joyful and wealthy – a lifestyle I aspired to achieve.
In simpler terms, the original statement is expressing that as a trainee solicitor, she felt objectified by her colleagues due to their inappropriate comments and looks. This made her decide to leave her job and pursue a career where she could earn more money and have greater control, as being sexualized for minimal wage was unappealing to her. So, she chose to change her path.
‘For the first year, I thought I’d made it. I thought I was Alan Sugar.’
Regarding my employment at the strip club, Megan shared: ‘It felt incredibly liberating. Those moments spent working there are among the most cherished memories from my life.’
Experiencing a sisterhood I’d never known among females before, I found solace where other girls had excluded me, due to circumstances beyond my control – being victimized by an older boy for no fault of mine. These girls sensed that I was both nerdy and timid, which made me even more isolated.
‘They were so lovely. I’d never felt that sisterhood, ever in my life, it was lovely.’
Megan soared to fame on season five of Love Island, finishing in fourth place with Wes Nelson.
After the conclusion of the show, they eventually parted ways approximately five months later. Later on, Megan asserted that Wes put his financial gains and career ahead of their relationship.
Just recently, I had an exclusive chat on The Mail’s Straight to the Comments! podcast, where I shared insights about my current relationship status.
Megan revealed: ‘Yeah, we’re like civil, we’re friends. If I saw him [Wes] out, I’d chat to him.’
Previously in our conversation, Megan, who publicly acknowledged her bisexuality in 2019, shared the unique aspects of her romantic connections with both women and men.
She shared that she doesn’t focus on gender; instead, she values the bond she forms with individuals. To her, if someone adds value to her life, helps her grow, and is kind, they are worthwhile.
In contemplation of her previous relationships, she commented: “I’ve been with numerous difficult individuals. I’m simply open-minded; whether they’re female or male, it makes no difference to me.
It’s thought that Megan might be unattached, but there were whispers of a romantic connection in September when she was spotted sharing a kiss with Instagram model Leah Ray.
Previously, her most recent reported romance was with Demi Sims, a cast member of TOWIE, whom she parted ways with in the year 2023, having initially met on the dating reality show Celebs Go Dating four years prior to their separation.
Megan often employs her stage to advocate for openness regarding sexuality, sharing that she feels deeply compelled to discuss the topic due to having been unfairly judged and shamed as a “slut” during her school years.
Previously, the model on OnlyFans expressed that she had felt a burden of embarrassment due to her close friends’ critical attitudes towards her. This sense of shame persisted when she faced harsh criticism and judgement during her time in the villa for being a content creator in the adult entertainment industry.
The television personality confessed: “During my school years, I was unfairly labeled and judged for my actions. This experience left me feeling ashamed, which I believe is the reason behind my strong voice today…
As someone who’s been granted this opportunity, I must admit that I hadn’t initially planned to discuss such candid topics as sexuality and female satisfaction so openly following my time in Love Island. However, the platform afforded to me seems to demand a genuine voice, and I believe it’s essential to share these insights for the better understanding and empowerment of all.
As a former resident of that villa, I can’t help but feel that my profession as a sex worker and my personal relationships, particularly those shown on television, were subjects of immense scrutiny and challenge.
After revealing myself, I’ve truly found my identity. I feel incredibly passionate about discussing this topic, and the years of embarrassment I carried are why I express myself so strongly on this matter today.
