Meg Ryan & Billy Crystal’s Iconic Scene Returns for Super Bowl Ad with Sydney Sweeney
Tuesday saw Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal re-enacting a memorable scene from “When Harry Met Sally…” in a forthcoming Hellmann’s advertisement destined for broadcast during Super Bowl LIX on February 9 across Fox, Tubi, and NFL+ streaming platforms.
36 years have passed since they first played the characters Sally Albright and Harry Burns in the popular romantic comedy directed by Rob Reiner, written by Nora Ephron. The movie received fantastic reviews and grossed $92.8 million worldwide.
In a brief 60-second clip, the iconic romantic comedy actress, aged 63, and the renowned comedian, who is 76, revisited Katz’s Delicatessen in New York City’s Lower East Side to enjoy some delicious sandwiches together.
‘I can’t believe they let us back in this place,’ Billy marveled.
Meg replied: ‘Why? Nobody remembers that.’
Ryan (originally known as Margaret Hyra), discovering she had omitted Hellmann’s mayonnaise on her sandwich, indulged in delight upon adding it, expressing her satisfaction with pleasurable sounds.

‘What’s happening? Oh boy, here we go,’ Crystal responded.
After being born in Connecticut, the woman with blond hair started making noises similar to moans and vigorously hitting the table, much as she did in the movie, aiming to demonstrate that women are capable of feigning orgasms.
‘This one’s real,’ the SNL veteran wisecracked.
Meg agreed: ‘Now that is a sandwich.’
Next, the shot transitioned to the radiant Sydney Sweeney, who repeated a well-known phrase originally spoken by Estelle Reiner in Rob Reiner’s film: “I’ll order the same thing.
The amusing remark ranks 33rd among the American Film Institute’s selection of the greatest 100 movie lines.
In the year 2013, Billy disclosed that it was none other than Ryan who created her memorable scene while rehearsing for “When Harry Met Sally…” during its production.
Meg had said, “I’ll have to pretend. I’ll need to pull off the pretense in a crowded spot.” To which, I responded, “Absolutely, something like a bustling restaurant” – is how Crystal recounted it on TODAY.
She replied, “I’ll order a large one.” To which I responded, “Then there will be an elderly lady who says to the waiter, ‘I’ll have the same as she does.’
Excitement for the advertisement kicked off on January 22, as the SAG Award nominee shared a photo of them together with the caption: ‘At last, we’re coming back together for something extraordinary! I can hardly wait to share it with you all soon.’
According to Variety, Hellmann’s spent at least $14 million (without considering Meg and Billy’s wages) on their 60-second commercial, while Fox Corp. had already sold all their available advertising spots as early as August.
