Meet the New Face of Politics Live
When longtime BBC presenter Jo Coburn announced her departure from Politics Live following a 14-year tenure, it sparked a flurry of enthusiasm among her peers who saw this opportunity as a highly sought-after position.
It is believed, according to The Mail on Sunday, that Vicki Young will be officially revealed as the next host of BBC’s prominent political show.
Ms Young, 54, is the deputy political editor at the BBC and is a regular stand-in for Coburn.
A source revealed: ‘Vicki is set to assume control over Politics Live. She’s exceptionally gifted and her superiors admire her greatly, which has caused a bit of resentment among some of her more competitive peers.’
A presenter who studied at Cambridge has spent her entire professional life with the BBC, starting at BBC Wales. She then moved on to become a correspondent for BBC Breakfast and eventually took over as the chief political correspondent.
In 2022, she was strongly considered to succeed Laura Kuenssberg as the corporation’s political editor. However, she chose not to compete for the position because her late husband, Rae Stewart, was undergoing cancer treatment and tragically passed away at the age of 56 in 2023.
It’s expected that Young’s promotion may place her among the highest-paid BBC personnel, joining figures such as Chris Mason (who earns around £260,000 per year), Victoria Derbyshire (earning approximately £295,000) and Nick Robinson (potentially making up to £349,000 on Radio 4).
Originally known as Daily Politics, now rebranded as Politics Live, this daily afternoon program aired by the BBC is considered one of their most prestigious political gems, having been hosted by Andrew Neil from 2003 until 2020.

Ms. Coburn, aged 57, revealed this month that she is departing from the BBC after a service spanning 28 years. The reporter, who initially joined as a Westminster correspondent, expressed: “What an honor it has been to occupy the anchor seat of Daily Politics and later Politics Live, reporting on the tumultuous occurrences of the past decade or so.
She will leave the BBC at the end of May. The corporation was approached for comment.
