Meet the Nepo Babies Stealing the Spotlight at Vanity Fair’s Oscar Bash!

Nepo babies ruled the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday night.

As an ardent film enthusiast, I simply can’t contain my excitement about being privy to the most elite and authentic post-Academy Awards bash, the one that’s invitation-only and reserved solely for the crème de la crème of Hollywood. And let me tell you, scoring an invite is no easy feat!

At the glamorous gathering held at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, the children of the wealthy and influential were under the spotlight, dazzling everyone with their captivating poses.

Many of these individuals, often referred to as “nepo babies,” have built reputable careers independently and earned their way into prestigious events without relying on parental connections.

So how many do you recognise? And can you guess who their famous parents are?

Esther McGregor

Esther McGregor, a talent born into a showbiz family, is the child of actor Ewan McGregor and his former partner, film producer Eve Mavrakis.

Esther, aged 23, has continued her father’s legacy in acting and shared the screen with him as Tetha Grig in the 2022 Disney+ series titled Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In that very year, the actor made a visit to The Late Late Show hosted by James Corden and shared insights on collaborating with his daughter.

He conveyed that it seems everyone believes she landed the job due to his influence, but in reality, that wasn’t the case. Instead, she tried out and earned the position through an audition process.

You won’t truly understand the dynamics with your children until a moment comes when interacting with them feels entirely ordinary and comfortable.

Esther additionally works as a model and has been featured in marketing efforts for fashion houses like Miu Miu, Celine, and most notably, Fendi, where she collaborated with her elder sibling Clara in an advertisement during 2018.

Iris and Maude Apatow

Iris and Maude Apatow are the offspring of renowned producer Judd Apatow and actress Leslie Mann, who is well-known in Hollywood.

Over the course of the years, I’ve had the privilege of appearing in my father’s movies, and I made certain to invite them to join me at the lively Vanity Fair event.

Iris, aged 22, and Maude, aged 27, gained recognition as they portrayed characters in movies produced by their father. These films include “Knocked Up” from 2007, “Funny People” from 2009, and “This Is 40” from 2012.

Nevertheless, Maude openly criticized being branded as a “nepotism baby,” confessing that she felt a sense of sadness when her initial tweet, which expressed surprise over her well-known family members, inadvertently sparked the nepo baby conversation and brought it to the forefront.

She conveyed to Net-a-Porter, “Initially, it felt sad. However, I make an effort not to dwell on it as I am fully aware of the fortunate position I’m in.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m constantly inspired by countless individuals who’ve thrived in similar circumstances. To maintain that momentum and produce top-tier results, I remain steadfastly committed to continuing my journey of excellence.

Maude has gone on to star in Euphoria, while Iris appeared on the Netflix series Love.

Damian Hurley

As a proud offspring, I’m Damian Hurley, born to the radiant and accomplished model-actress, Elizabeth Hurley, and the late entrepreneur, Steve Bing.

Born into a world of glamorous gatherings, having Elton John and Hugh Grant as godfathers, Damian has been around the entertainment industry all his life. Yet, he insists that he has successfully dodged much of the controversy surrounding nepotism due to his strong work ethic.

He mentioned to The Sunday Times last year that people who look at him often think, “Wow, this person has been working tirelessly since they were 15 years old,” reflecting on his past modeling career and adolescent acting role alongside his mother in The Royals.

In a new venture, the photographer-turned-filmmaker is making his directorial mark with the movie “Strictly Confidential,” featuring his mom Liz in the leading role.

Since the age of eight, this film enthusiast has been creating short movies on his own. Notably, his mother’s former partner and godfather, Hugh, has appeared in several films and encouraged him to pursue filmmaking as a profession.

In a more casual and straightforward manner, we can say: His mom fully supports him, even willing to act in the provocative parts of Strictly Confidential – a role that Damian directed, which he found completely natural for him to handle.

Zoey Deutch

I am fortunate to be the offspring of actress-director Lea Thompson and film/TV director Howard Deutch, two talented individuals who have left their mark in the entertainment industry.

She’s primarily recognized for her acting work in films such as Set It Up, The Politician, Zombieland: Double Tap, and Before I Fall.

Lea is widely known for playing Lorraine Baines-McFly in the Back to the Future movie series, yet she’s appeared in over thirty different films.

At the same time, Howard was teaming up with filmmaker John Hughes. Notably, he directed two of Hughes’ films, namely “Pretty in Pink” and “Some Kind of Wonderful.

Previously, Zoey mentioned that spending her childhood in Hollywood provided her with an unusual viewpoint about the entertainment industry.

In 2018, she shared with Capitol File magazine that her past played a significant role in equipping her for the bright lights, bustling sets, and on-screen drama of the movie industry (Hollywood).

As someone deeply rooted in the artistic world, I can confidently assert that we all draw inspiration from our personal journeys. It’s hard to believe anyone could claim otherwise, but my upbringing within this industry has undoubtedly shaped a distinct viewpoint about the profession.

Iris Law

Iris Law is the daughter of Hollywood star Jude Law and British actress Sadie Frost.

She began her modeling profession at a young age and has collaborated on projects with Miu Miu, Calvin Klein, and Versace’s advertising campaigns.

Recently, she made her acting debut by landing the role of Soo Catwoman in the 2022 miniseries Pistol. In preparation for this role, she even went as far as shaving off all her hair.

In her earlier statement, the 24-year-old mentioned that even though her parents, who parted ways in 2003 after being married for six years amidst their high-profile careers, managed to provide a sense of normalcy during her childhood.

She mentioned: ‘My father was quite young. He had all his children with Frost by the time he turned 30. Similarly, my mother was also youthful. I always find it hard to guess her age from photographs, I usually exclaim, “Did you really have three kids at that age?” She seems barely 17.’

Reflecting back on those days when we used to munch on snacks at Primrose Hill, she remarked, “When I was young, my parents weren’t the typical rock ‘n’ roll types; they were simply my parents,” [she emphasized].

‘Everyone’s parents were rock ’n’ roll when they were young. That’s not a crazy thing.’

Sofia Richie

Sofia Richie hails as the child of renowned singer Lionel Richie and his second spouse, Diane Alexander.

At the tender age of 14, she kick-started her modeling career by gracing the pages of Teen Vogue. Later, she caught the attention of editors from Elle, Seventeen, and Vanity Fair, appearing in their editorials as well.

Earlier, Sofia expressed that she had reservations about pursuing a career as a musician due to the potential labeling as a “nepotism baby.

Sofia expressed: ‘For a long time, I’ve been searching for where I belong in the world. When I was younger, I aspired to be like my parents, and I deeply admired my father. This admiration led me towards music for a while. However, it didn’t seem authentic to me.’

Later on, people suggested, “You’d make a great actor!” For a while, I gave it a shot, but even that didn’t quite fit my personality.

I lacked the necessary experience, and I wasn’t keen on obtaining a role due to nepotism, as some child stars do, simply because their parents are influential figures.

She added: “I thought to myself, ‘Perhaps I’m not suited for this. Instead, let me embrace who I truly am.’

As an ardent admirer, I can’t hide my excitement when I say that having Lionel by my side has been nothing short of a blessing. He’s not just my father; he’s my idol, the one I look up to for guidance as I navigate through the glaring spotlight.

She mentioned that she learned how to interact with people, especially when they recognize her, from her father. He manages these situations with such poise and warmth. He welcomes anyone who approaches him.

He’s extremely grateful; he always expresses his appreciation. He’s instilled in me the importance of maintaining a positive outlook, never adopting a ‘Oh no, not today’ mentality. He’s more than just a popular figure – for my entire life, I’ve admired him from afar.

As a connoisseur of life, I’ve yet to witness a moment where he declines a photograph or behaves impolitely towards someone approaching him on the sidewalk. This unassuming figure has consistently served as my inspiration.

Margaret Qualley

Margaret Qualley is the daughter of actress Andie MacDowell and model Paul Qualley.

The 30-year-old Golden Globe nominee has built an impressive career and received an invitation to the Vanity Fair party due to her role in the Oscar-nominated film, The Substance.

Her success is so notable that the Hollywood star, Andie, has stated that she encounters a form of ‘reverse nepotism’, due to the rising fame of Margaret.

In recent times, her connection with the actress from The Substance film has given her an exciting and trendy image, despite her earlier fame in movies like Four Wedding and a Funeral, Green Card, and Groundhog Day.

While appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actress from Cedar Cove playfully mentioned the surge in recognition she’s experiencing due to her kid’s accomplishments.

As an overjoyed, proud mother, I can’t help but admit that I feel just like those kids who are often accused of being starstruck. But Isn’t it amazing how life can take such unexpected turns?

So, it turns out to be quite a delightful surprise. I receive letters in my mailbox, complimenting me warmly, and

Zoe Kravitz

Zoe Kravitz is the daughter of actress Lisa Bonet and singer Lenny Kravitz.

She has followed in both her parents’ footsteps, venturing into both the acting and music world.

In the year 2007, Zoe first appeared on the big screen in the romantic comedy movie “No Reservations”. Later on, she took on more roles within the Divergent series and the Fantastic Beasts film franchise.

Apart from that, she’s also the lead singer of the band Lolawolf, and she’s lent her talents to tracks by artists including Drake, Taylor Swift, Rae Sremmurd, and Janelle Monáe.

Despite having two famous parents, she previousloy revealed her childhood was surprisingly normal.

‘My dad was brought up very old school, very strict – “Yes ma’am, yes sir,”‘ she said. ‘

He dons leather trousers and a boa, yet when it comes to household tasks or attire, he’d say something like, “Have you completed your daily tasks?” Or “That dress appears quite short.” In all honesty, he’s not joking.

Even though I had tasks to do and received my allowance, it was still time for bed as there was a gathering with Mick Jagger and models happening.

While Lenny and Lisa split in 1993 they still have a close relationship.

Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin and his wife Kennya.

She began modeling during her teenage years and later launched her own beauty and skincare brand, named Rhodes.

Previously, Hailey, who hails from the well-known Baldwin acting dynasty, has openly discussed her birth into celebrity status and accepting the nickname ‘nepotism child’.

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but acknowledge the influence of my legendary father, Stephen, and my remarkable Uncle Alec in my life. Embracing the reality of my fortunate position, I proudly don my “Nepo Baby” T-shirt, a testament to the legacy that runs through our family.

When you find yourself in public and people frequently approach your father or uncle for photos, it becomes clear why…that was me recognizing the circumstances and choosing to flaunt my unique identity openly. I understand that others have already categorized me in a certain way, so I might as well wear it with confidence because it’s true.

Lily-Rose Depp

Lily-Rose Depp, actress and model, is born to the famous Hollywood actor Johnny Depp and French singer and model Vanessa Paradis.

She has followed in both her parents’ footsteps, pursuing a career in modelling and acting.

Indeed, the actress who played Nosferatu has firmly dismissed the notion that her roles are based on family ties. In her words, “The only thing that secures a part for you is being the perfect fit for it.

As a die-hard admirer, I must say, it’s not just her fame that got her into HBO’s The Idol; she openly acknowledges that her identity was a key to unlocking that door initially. Yet, let me be clear, she doesn’t rest on her laurels. She continues to work tirelessly, understanding full well that success isn’t handed out, it’s earned.

She said: ‘The internet seems to care a lot about that kind of stuff.

Regardless of what others may assume about you or your background, let me assure you that the only thing that will land you the role is if you are perfectly suited for it.

‘Online attention often leans towards your personal connections, like your family, rather than those involved in your professional endeavors. While they might help open some opportunities for you, remember there’s a lot more effort required to build a successful career beyond just being introduced.’

Throughout her lifetime, she struggled with the limelight. To shield her and her brother [Jack] from it as much as feasible, her parents made great efforts to do so.

‘My upbringing wasn’t typical for most people, and it presents its own unique challenges. However, it’s the only experience I have, making it an integral part of who I am.’

She confessed that dealing with fame as an adult has been quite peculiar, but she also acknowledged: ‘It feels distinct when you live it yourself instead of observing it through someone else. I suppose it’s a challenge I have to handle on my own terms.’

Dan Levy

Dan Levy hails from a family where comedy and acting are a part of daily life, as he’s the child of the renowned comedian and actor, Eugene Levy, and scriptwriter Deborah Divine.

The Canadian actor and filmmaker began his career as a television host on MTV Canada.

Previously, he asserted that nepotism kids need to put in triple the effort to build their careers, even though he voluntarily stayed away from his renowned father for a span of five years to dodge allegations that his achievements were due to his lineage rather than merit.

He only sought out Eugene to co-create Schitt’s Creek, the successful comedy series, once he felt he had established a reputation within the industry.

He clarified, “I’ve never sought help from my father for any matter. It seems to me that there was a piece of him that always questioned why I didn’t approach him.

‘You know the culture, you know how easy it is to judge people who have grown up in the industry.’

He went on saying: “I attended high school, moved on to college, then joined MTV, and during my audition and for the following five years, neither they nor anyone else knew about my father.

After building a connection with my audience and achieving success with my TV show, I believed I deserved a voice in the discussion. That’s when I decided to involve him.

I didn’t truly realize I had the skills needed until after completing the task, and it was then that the concept for Schitt’s Creek struck me. That’s when I knew I could contribute effectively.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus is born to country music performer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus, as well as talent manager and record producer Tish Cyrus.

In 2001, she secured her initial TV appearance on her father’s TV show titled “Doc.” However, it was five years later, when she took on the lead role in the Disney Channel series “Hannah Montana,” that her career really took off.

The next year saw the commencement of her solo music journey, marked by the debut of her US chart-topping pop rock albums, titled “Meet Miley Cyrus.

Currently, her primary emphasis is on her musical career, and she has amassed an impressive collection of awards. These include three Grammy Awards, a Brit Award, five Billboard Music Awards, and three MTV Video Music Awards.

Such is her status that she has gone on to eclipse her father’s level of fame.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross hails from a renowned musical family, being the child of iconic singer Diana Ross and music executive Robert Ellis Silberstein.

In 1996, she first appeared on the silver screen, portraying a character who was both Jewish and African-American, in the indie movie titled Far Harbor.

In the year that followed, she began presenting The Dish – a Lifetime television program that monitored trends in popular culture.

She’s famous for acting in TV shows like Girlfriends and Black-ish, and she was nominated for five Emmy Awards for her role in Black-ish.)

Regardless of having a renowned singer as her parent, she articulated that she experienced a nurturing, rather than a shadowy, upbringing.

This also speaks volumes about her, as she prioritized her children over fame, as she stated in a previous interview.

Instead of letting the glaring spotlight of celebrity overwhelm her, my mother skillfully preserved her own radiance. I can’t explain how she did it, but she has always been a more nurturing and effective parent than she was as “Diana Ross.

Tallulah, Rumer and Scout Willis

Tallulah, Rumer and Scout Willis are the daughters of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis.

Bruce and Demi were husband and wife from 1987 to 2000, and since then, they’ve continued to work together effectively as loving parents to their three kids.

31-year-old Tallulah entered the world of fashion and introduced her personal clothing line, Wyllis, amidst the pandemic.

36-year-old Rumer has walked in her parents’ acting steps, starting her movie career by sharing the screen with her mom in the 1995 coming-of-age film Now and Then.

33-year-old Scout initially delved into acting with appearances in the 1995 movie The Scarlet Letter, as well as the 1999 film Breakfast of Champions, featuring Demi and Bruce respectively. However, she has since shifted her focus to music.

Kaia Gerber

Kaia Gerber is the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber.

Ever since she made her debut at Fashion Week in 2017, she’s been walking in her mom’s shoes, and the next year, she was honored with the title Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.

Kaia, aged 23, has likewise chosen the path of an acting profession, appearing in the 2016 movie “Sister Cities” and several other films and TV shows since then.

Previously, she faced criticism when she argued that her successful career isn’t due to her famous family, instead maintaining that if nepotism truly held as much power as people suggest, we would witness a lot more examples of it.

Kaia, who’s been securing notable acting roles lately, mentioned that even with her well-known family background, she obtained each role through her own efforts. In other words, she emphasized that no artist would compromise their creative vision for a relative’s sake.

She minimized the impact of her parents on her professional journey, stating, “Mom used to tease, ‘If I could arrange a Chanel campaign for you, it’d be for me instead of you.’
