Meet the cast of The Traitors 2026: From a barrister turned crime writer to a former police detective – a look at the contestants fighting for a huge prize pot in juiciest series yet

The popular show Traitors is returning! And if you thought the celebrity edition was full of backstabbing, get ready – this next season is going to be even more intense.

The fourth season of the popular BBC show begins today, and it’s promising plenty of drama, shocking surprises, and intense competition. Twenty-two contestants are vying for a huge prize, making this season the most exciting one yet.

Honestly, even Claudia Winkleman is shocked by how sneaky everyone on the show is this year! She told the Daily Mail they’re playing the game like she’s never seen before – so brilliantly, and everyone is so determined to win that prize money. It’s amazing (and a little scary) to watch, I’m completely hooked!

I’ll just say this show is incredibly fresh and unlike anything I’ve seen before – it genuinely took my breath away at times. I’m so excited for audiences to experience it, because the people behind it are exceptionally talented.

Here’s a look at this year’s contestants on the show, who are working to uncover and eliminate the ‘Traitors’. The group includes a diverse range of people, like a lawyer who now writes crime novels, a retired police detective, and a personal trainer who’s also a top-ranked fitness model in Europe.

Harriet

Age: 52

Occupation: Barrister turned crime writer

Location: London

Harriet, who overcame alcoholism, spent almost a decade as a criminal lawyer before leaving to become a crime novelist.

Harriet, originally from Edinburgh but now living in the South of England, is a successful author – her books have been featured on The Sunday Times Best Seller list. She’s also been sober for three years. In an interview with The Guardian, she explained her decision to get help, saying, ‘There’s a limit to how many times someone in their forties should lose consciousness.’

She shared what ultimately motivated her to get sober: the death of a close friend in April 2021. Her friend passed away from cancer, and while it wasn’t related to alcohol, seeing someone so close lose their life made her realize she needed to prioritize her own health and well-being. It was a turning point for her.

‘My last drink was on 7 June 2022.’

Harriet, a mother and dog owner, plans to donate any winnings from the BBC show to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Stephen

Age: 32

Occupation: Cyber Security Consultant

Location: London

Stephen is determined to win the competition and has been studying past seasons to develop a strategy.

I’ve been re-watching it to refresh my memory and pay attention to details – things people did that seemed ordinary to them but struck others as strange. I’m looking for those subtle clues that might seem suspicious.

Stephen, who admits to being a bit of a control freak, said he’d be a perfect Traitor. He believes the role gives him the most control over the game, and significantly improves his chances of staying in the game – you can only be eliminated by the other players voting to banish you, which happens much less often.

Amanda

Age: 57

Occupation: Retired Police Detective

Location: Brighton

I’m really excited to see Amanda use her detective skills on the show! I have a feeling she’ll be amazing at spotting when other contestants aren’t being truthful – she just has that kind of perceptive ability.

She explained that she’s developed a strong understanding of how to read and outsmart others, but at her core, she’s a good person. That’s why she became a police officer – to genuinely help people. She emphasized the importance of staying friendly and composed, even in stressful situations.

Amanda admits she’s still competitive, even as she approaches 60, but has gained perspective with age. She’s realized that winning isn’t everything, especially since retiring from the police and starting to volunteer, where she now focuses on helping those in need.

Jessie

Age: 28

Occupation: Hairstylist

Location: Hull

Jessie decided to try out for the BBC show as a personal challenge, and she’d previously shared her experiences with a stammer online. She explained that having a stammer forces her to be genuine, saying, ‘I can’t hide who I am, and that’s actually helped me be a more authentic person.’

In a TikTok video, Jessie shared that she used to be ashamed of her stutter and tried to hide it. She realized it’s simply a part of who she is, and she’s learned to accept it.

I’m focusing on staying calm and taking charge of the situation. This is about me confronting my stammer directly and refusing to let it hold me back.

Adam

Age: 34

Occupation: Builder

Location: Essex

Adam says he’s very direct and expressive, explaining that he always says exactly what he’s thinking without holding back.

Adam explained his preparation for the game, saying he’s become skilled at reading people. ‘I’ve studied body language,’ he said, ‘so you won’t be able to tell if I’m bluffing. I pay attention to everything – how someone stands, their gestures, little habits, eye movements, and even subtle changes like how their ears move!’

Success in this situation will largely depend on understanding and working with the people involved. It’s important to be adaptable and adjust your approach based on who you’re interacting with, as everyone comes from different backgrounds. Being able to blend in and respond to the circumstances is key.

Netty

Age: 42

Job Title: Nursery School Teacher

Location: Glasgow

Netty, a single mom with a physical difference, is determined to compete and earn prize money so she can take her seven-year-old daughter on a trip.

Netty said she applied to the show simply because she wanted to enjoy herself and rediscover a part of who she was.

I enjoy staying active and pushing my limits, even though I face some physical challenges. I was born with a limb difference, which makes certain things harder, but I always find a way to adapt and overcome them.

Ben

Age: 66

Occupation: Retired

Location: Hampshire

Ben served in the Royal Navy and thinks his military experience will help him succeed in the game.

When asked about his willingness to do whatever it takes to win, Ben responded bluntly that he wouldn’t hesitate to hurt others. He stated he could be completely ruthless and had no problem doing what was necessary.

Ben said he’d use the money to finally learn to fly and give his wife the honeymoon she’s always dreamed of. They weren’t able to go on one after their wedding because he was stationed in Saudi Arabia – she handled the wedding arrangements while he traveled back and forth from the UK. He also plans to use some of the money to treat his family.

Ellie

Age: 33

Occupation: Psychologist

Location: London

Ellie intends to participate in the game without revealing what she does for a living, as she’s concerned people will form opinions about her based on her job.

I believe I’m the first psychologist to appear on the show, and I’m excited to offer a psychological viewpoint. I plan to observe the other contestants, trying to understand the reasons behind their actions and what motivates them.

Faraaz

Age: 22

Occupation: Internal Auditor

Location: Middlesbrough

If Faraaz wins, he’s hoping to take his family on a religious journey and has already started planning how to make it possible.

It’s best to start cautiously, as you can’t win right away – only lose. I think it’s smart to hold back some of your thoughts and plans initially, observe what others are doing, and share small bits of information without immediately drawing attention to yourself.

It’s easy to get caught up in the moment and feel things strongly, but I’m usually able to separate my emotions and make decisions based on logic rather than feelings.

Fiona

Age: 62

Occupation: Local Government Officer

Location: Swansea

Fiona says she’s surprisingly hooked on The Traitors, even though she usually doesn’t watch reality TV. She explains she’s never been on a show like this before, but finds The Traitors to be different – and more genuine – than other reality programs. She’s drawn to the strategic gameplay and the psychological aspects of the competition.

She explained her approach is to get to know people fully, accepting their flaws as well as their strengths. She’s comfortable with honest conversations and isn’t afraid to challenge others, but always respectfully. She emphasized she would never bully or harass anyone and is someone who isn’t afraid to voice her opinions.

Hugo

Age: 51

Occupation: Barrister

Location: London (Born in Cardiff)

Hugo is a highly accomplished lawyer who travels frequently for work. He practices law in the Caribbean, London, and Dubai, often appearing in the Dubai International Financial Centre courts.

Despite a busy work schedule, he has become obsessed and watched every episode of the show.

He believes he has a good poker face, explaining that his work as a barrister requires him to appear confident and believable in front of juries. He noted that people can easily sense nervousness, so maintaining a calm demeanor is crucial for his profession.

Jack

Age: 29

Occupation: Personal Trainer

Location: Essex

Okay, so everyone thinks Jack is all smiles and good vibes, but honestly? That’s just what he wants you to think! He totally let slip that he’s a total beast on the field and will do whatever it takes to win. He said he can flip a switch and become super aggressive when needed, and I’m living for it! It’s like, yes, he’s charming, but don’t mistake kindness for weakness – this guy is a competitor!

I have a section in my strategy guide dedicated to last-resort tactics – moves I only use when I’m losing ground, but I know they’re effective. I can influence certain players to rally around a specific person, essentially controlling the outcome by manipulating the votes.

I always avoid starting rumors directly. My preference is to guide the discussion without directly accusing anyone, as that could easily cause problems with the group.

Jade

Age: 25

Occupation: PhD Student

Location: West Midlands

Jade is a PhD student researching women’s health and pregnancy. When she’s not studying, she enjoys playing video games, and she believes gaming skills could actually help her in other areas.

I’ve decided to downplay my qualifications a little. Instead of saying I’m pursuing a PhD, I’ll just say I’m a master’s student. It’s too difficult to create a completely false history, and I don’t want the hassle of maintaining a lie, so I’ll simply present my experience as less advanced than it is.

I sometimes have a naturally serious expression that can come across as staring, so I have to be careful about being too direct or blunt. I try to blend in, but also be assertive and stand out from the crowd.

James

Age: 38

Occupation: Gardener

Location: Weymouth

James is determined to join the Traitors and is willing to do anything, even use seduction, to achieve his goal.

I’d probably try to subtly encourage the Traitors to be the ones to make the first move! I’d play it cool and present a confident image at the Round Table – show that I can handle the situation. I’d aim to seem relaxed and capable, even if I was feeling anxious inside.

‘I will do anything in my power to become one if I’m not picked. My poker skills would come in handy. I’d like to think I’m a nice person, but it would be exhilarating to be a Traitor,’ he said.

The gardener is hoping his ability to play poker will be useful, but he’s keeping his gambling wins a secret from everyone at the castle.

Judy

Age: 60

Occupation: Child Liaison Officer

Location: Doncaster

Judy shared that she has dyslexia, but sees it as a strength – her brain is naturally skilled at understanding others. She plans to use her prize money to support her family and enjoy time with her eleven grandchildren.

As a lifestyle expert, I completely understand the desire to create lasting family memories! I come from a big family myself – eleven grandkids ranging in age from one to seventeen, plus my own children and three wonderful stepdaughters. What I really dream of is renting a villa – just once – big enough for everyone to come together. Life gets so busy, and it’s becoming harder and harder to get us all under one roof. It would be incredible to make that happen and create a special, shared experience for all of us.

Matthew

Age: 35

Occupation: Creative Director

Location: Edinburgh

Matthew is sure he’ll be a valuable team member on missions. Before going into the castle, he said he wasn’t worried about any challenges. He’s athletic and a strong swimmer, so he’s confident about the physical aspects. He also enjoys climbing and bouldering, meaning he’s comfortable with heights and eager to take on whatever comes his way.

Look, when it comes to competition, I’m not shy about doing what it takes to win. If I make it to the final round, I’m prepared to appeal to my fellow contestants’ sense of fairness – or maybe even a little guilt – to get those prize funds. It’s not my favorite tactic, but sometimes you have to play the game!

My partner and I got engaged during the COVID pandemic. I had previously campaigned for marriage equality in Northern Ireland – they had civil partnerships available, but same-sex marriage wasn’t legal until 2020. While I was campaigning, I hadn’t considered getting married myself, but now I’ve changed my mind and I do want to.

After working to legalize same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland, I think that’s a more compelling story to share if I make it to the final round. It just doesn’t feel right to oppose someone’s desire to get married! I’d probably mention that I plan to get married back home on my family farm, and if I win, I’ll definitely make it happen.

Maz

Age: 59

Occupation: Civil Servant

Location: Preston

Oh my gosh, you guys, let me tell you about Maz! He’s seriously the sweetest. He’s 59, a total family man – five kids, five grandkids, and another little one is on the way! He always says he’s lived a full life, done all sorts of things, and that gives him a really great perspective on everything. It’s so endearing, honestly!

I stay pretty active and feel in good shape for my age. I play football two times a week, and I’m confident that will give me plenty of energy and motivation.

Rachel

Age: 42

Occupation: Head of Communications

Location: County Down

Rachel isn’t shy about playing aggressively and has gotten good at hiding her true feelings, even from her husband.

‘I will do anything to win. Nothing’s off the table.

I’m a very competitive person. When I’m playing a game, I’ll do whatever it takes to win. Everyone participating knows exactly what they signed up for. If someone doesn’t understand that it’s a competition, they’re in the wrong place.

My husband has lost track of whether I’m being honest with him. It’s not that I lie frequently, but I could playfully say something unexpected, and he’ll admit he doesn’t know if it’s true!

Rachel plans to use the prize money to make special moments with her mother, who is living with dementia. She explained, ‘I just want to cherish the time I have left with her and create happy memories for my children, who adore their grandmother.’

Reece

Age: 27

Occupation: Sweet Shop Assistant

Location: Sheffield

I’ve been following Reece for a while now, and it’s clear he’s incredibly driven to succeed. Honestly, he’s even said himself that he’ll bend the rules – he’s admitted to cheating in games! He’s so competitive, he’s willing to completely change how he acts just to come out on top. It’s…intense, but you can’t deny his dedication.

I’m comfortable being assertive and direct – what you see is what you get. I always remember it’s a competition, though, and I’ll adapt my approach to the situation if I need to. I’m very competitive and believe in myself, and I want to win by staying true to who I am, not by changing my personality.

Ross

Age: 37

Occupation: Sales Exec and Personal Trainer

Location: London

Ross confidently stated he has won numerous accolades and is generally a lucky guy.

He’s been successful in many areas. As a young athlete, he played basketball for London and competed in the London Youth Games. He then transitioned to rugby sevens through a Sport England program for promising young athletes. He also pursued bodybuilding and is currently ranked as a top five muscle model in Europe.

Roxy

Age: 32

Occupation: Recruiter

Location: Amsterdam

Before appearing on the show, Roxy revealed that the first six years of her life were challenging. She believes those early experiences, which forced her to adapt and learn quickly, will be a strength and help her succeed in the competition. She feels the skills she gained from difficult circumstances will give her an advantage.

She plans to use the money to treat her large family to a special getaway and create lasting memories together. She also hopes to use some of the winnings to start a family with her boyfriend.

Sam

Age: 34

Occupation: Account Manager

Location: North Yorkshire

Okay, so I’ve literally devoured every single episode – every. single. one! – because this game is HUGE. It’s not just about winning for me, it’s about finally being able to start a family with my wife. I need to win big, you guys. This is everything!

The main reason I’m doing this is to help with expenses. Childcare costs are incredibly high right now, and this money would really take a weight off our shoulders and ease a lot of financial stress.

The Traitors starts New Years Day at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
