Meet The Block star's secret son: Popular TV judge reveals rare details about his family

As a dedicated follower of Darren Palmer and his fascinating life journey, I can’t help but admire this man who balances his professional success on The Block with his personal life as a loving father and husband. With 13 years of marriage under his belt and being an integral part of Hugo’s life since he was just a toddler, it’s clear that family is at the heart of everything Darren does.

Beyond my role as one of the judges on The Block, I’m additionally a part of another three-member team outside the show, if you will.

The interior designer, 46, helps his husband Olivier Duvillard raise his teenage son Hugo, 15.

Speaking to Woman’s Day, Darren said family had always been high on his list of priorities.

‘Nothing is more important than my family,’ he told the publication.

Darren, who tied the knot with Olivier 13 years back, has been an integral part of Hugo’s life since his first birthday.

Back in 2009 when I met Hugo, a charming chap, I couldn’t help but feel that he was an exceptional young man, Olivier, 51, graciously agreed with me and the two women who were also there.

Darren mentioned that although Hugo is shared custody with Olivier, the teen is indeed a vital component within our family system.

‘We have our son with us just less than half the time,’ Darren explained.

In his presence, we engage in enjoyable, family-oriented activities that create lasting memories. When he’s not around, we focus on pursuing our professional and personal objectives.

He mentioned that they had achieved a satisfactory balance in their parental roles, but they would gladly assume the responsibility of caring for Hugo permanently with delight.

He mentioned that it’s a nice equilibrium, yet deep down, he wishes they could always be a family unit, spending all their time together.

Darren and Olivier previously shielded Hugo from public attention, but lately, they’ve been disclosing more aspects of their private lives online.

On Father’s Day, Olivier posted photos from an enjoyable excursion he had with Darren and Hugo on Instagram.

It appeared that they were thoroughly enjoying themselves as they attended the History of House event in Sydney, which showcased Groove Terminator and The Soweto Gospel Choir.

‘Next level Father’s Day having a blast with our #1 son and my other #1,’ Olivier captioned the sweet post.

Darren showed The Block contestants how it’s done last month when he listed his $2.98million renovated Bondi Beach home for sale.

As a lifestyle expert, I proudly acquired this opulent property alongside my partner, Olivier, back in 2015, diving headfirst into an exciting renovation project ever since.

Located a mere 400 meters away from one of Australia’s most famous beaches, this four-bedroom, four-bathroom property has seen numerous changes, as per reports from Domain.

The Block star said working on his own home made him very empathetic for the contestants he judged on the renovation competition.

In my experience, undergoing similar circumstances has deeply cultivated my capacity for understanding and kindness. As I journeyed to Victoria to capture footage and returned to my workplace, I learned firsthand the significance of empathy. Each step I took was a reminder that we’re all navigating our unique paths, and I strive to be there for others as they navigate theirs.
