Meet Mr Rosamund Pike: The VERY upper class, twice-divorced eccentric ex-heroin addict 20 years her senior who almost nobody knew existed until she name-checked him at the Oliviers

It’s become a running joke that actors often get very emotional when they win awards – it’s a predictable and often parodied moment.

Rosamund Pike’s emotional acceptance speech at the Olivier Awards last weekend—where she cried while thanking her husband, Robie, for his support—stood out as a bit different from the norm.

You know, it really struck me watching her – her husband always kept such a low profile, it was surprising to realize she was even married! Most people in the audience, and honestly, the public in general, didn’t even know she had a spouse. It just goes to show how much we don’t know about the lives of people we think we do.

The camera crew seemed to miss a key moment during the speech. When Rosamund finished by saying ‘Thank you Robie,’ instead of focusing on Robie’s reaction, they unexpectedly cut to a shot of Cate Blanchett.

So just who is Mr Rosamund Pike?

The Daily Mail investigated this and discovered that Robie Uniacke, despite consistently avoiding public attention, has a surprisingly interesting life.

At 65, Uniacke is nearing retirement age, while Robie, at 47, is almost 20 years younger than Pike.

Plus, he’s not her husband. As Richard Eden of the Daily Mail recently reported, they’re actually choosing to remain ‘happily unmarried’.

She even joked about this during her acceptance speech.

Okay, so you won’t BELIEVE what my incredible partner does! She has this amazing habit of finding the groom right before the wedding and, totally deadpan, whispering, ‘You are the only person who thinks this is a good idea!’ It’s hilarious and slightly terrifying, honestly. But that’s just her – she’s always been brutally, wonderfully honest. She just has to tell it like it is, no matter what! It’s one of the things I love most about her.

Pike clearly comes from a privileged background – she grew up in Earl’s Court, the daughter of opera singers, and attended expensive private schools like Badminton in Bristol and Wadham College at Oxford. However, her partner’s family is even more deeply rooted in high society.

Robie, who was educated at the prestigious Eton College and born in Windsor, comes from a long line of wealthy, land-owning Irish ancestors on his father’s side.

Camilla, his sister, married into the wealthy Guinness family. Her late husband, Jasper Guinness, was the son of Jonathan Guinness, the 3rd Baron Moyne, who inherited a fortune from the brewing business.

And Robie’s first wife was the titled daughter of the Earl of Carlisle.

His mother, Sally Uniacke, was a talented artist and fashion designer who started her own clothing label, Cat Designs, in the 1960s. He was about eight years old when she tragically died in a car accident.

And Robie seems to have inherited her creative side.

He started his career as a stockbroker in the city, but surprisingly left after a short time to spend five years deep-sea diving, searching for lost treasure – a rather unusual career path, to say the least, and not something you typically see on professional networking sites.

He didn’t strike it rich, but he realized a traditional office job wasn’t a good fit. Since then, he’s been a successful self-employed entrepreneur, and we’ll share more details about that shortly.

But he’s also very much a hands-on father to their sons as we learned this week.

This heartfelt praise from Rosamund, which included a kiss, was what everything stemmed from.

It’s funny, she said to the audience at the Royal Albert Hall. She was performing a play about the challenges women face – balancing a career, family, and everything in between. But she pointed out she could only be there that night thanks to her supportive husband, Robie, who was home taking care of their children. She thanked him for making it all possible.

The couple, together since 2009, now reside in a charming Georgian townhouse in a residential area of Islington, north London. They live there with their two sons, 13-year-old Solo and 11-year-old Atom, names that hint at the father’s adventurous personality.

A neighbor shared with the Daily Mail that the couple seemed very down-to-earth. You’d never guess she’d been nominated for an Academy Award, they said.

‘She just seems completely normal. They just seem like a normal family.’

In 2012, Pike purchased a terraced house for £1.6 million. The family later bought the neighboring house in 2023 for £2 million and are currently renovating it.

Okay, so here’s the situation: it’s uncertain if they’re intending to combine these two properties. But even if they did want to, it would be incredibly difficult, if not impossible, because both buildings are historically listed. That could lead to the rather quirky outcome of them needing to use two separate front doors to visit each other – can you imagine? As a lifestyle expert, I always say, preserving character is important, but sometimes practicality needs to be considered too!

Oh my gosh, those five years were everything! From 2019 to 2024, I was constantly checking for updates because Rosamund was filming ‘The Wheel of Time’ for Amazon Prime, and the family was living between London and Prague! It was amazing seeing glimpses of both cities – I just knew she was thriving, bringing that magic to life on screen, and balancing it all with family life. I basically tracked their movements across Europe, it was a glorious time!

Robie is incredibly knowledgeable and well-read. He even learned Mandarin so his sons could learn it, and the family frequently travels to China.

Thanks to his father’s encouragement, Solo won a Mandarin-speaking contest for elementary school students in 2024, and a video of his performance became popular in China.

He’s had a bit of a rocky financial past and a complicated personal life, including two marriages and six children.

Robie Uniacke has an older son, Robie, born in 1984, from his marriage to Lady Emma Howard, the daughter of the late Earl of Carlisle. They married in 1983, when Robie was 22 years old and Lady Emma was 30.

Both later went to rehab for heroin addiction, before their divorce in 1988.

Uniacke remarried later that year to Rose Batstone, an interior designer and art gallery owner. Though they are no longer together, she still uses his last name.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always excited to share beautiful design, and Rose Uniacke is a name you should definitely know! She’s created a really stunning brand with three gorgeous shops – think incredible furniture, fabrics, and everything for the home – all conveniently located just off Sloane Square in Chelsea. It’s a fantastic destination for anyone looking to elevate their space.

She and her ex-husband have three children: Olive, Hector, and Florence. She is currently married to David Heyman, a producer on the Harry Potter films, and they live in Pimlico.

The family’s ties to the Harry Potter films extended to their daughter, Olive Uniacke-Ensley, who worked as a production assistant on the last movie. She later dated the film’s star, Daniel Radcliffe.

Olive went to school at Gordonstoun in Scotland – the same school King Charles attended – and also studied at the French Lycee in Kensington, London.

She’s joined WME as an agent, working with well-known clients like Riz Ahmed and Tessa Thompson, and has many connections within the celebrity world.

Her Instagram features photos with singer Dua Lipa, actor Nicholas Hoult, socialite Poppy Delevingne, model Adwoa Aboah, and Emma Grede, who works with the Kardashians on their businesses.

She’s been seen at many high-profile events around the world, including film premieres, awards shows, and festivals in cities like London and Venice. She’s also attended events like the Vanity Fair Oscars Party and the BAFTAs.

Her 2022 wedding, held at the church near her family’s home in Pimlico, was featured in Vogue. For the reception, Valentino provided her with a vibrant pink suit and top.

She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Dane Ensley, a mental health specialist. They also had a wedding ceremony in Las Vegas, and together they have a daughter named Ever Rose.

Let me tell you, I’ve heard stories about Olive – she was the girl to know back in the day! Apparently, she threw legendary house parties – seriously, the best. People always said she really knew how to let loose and have a good time. She wasn’t afraid to be a little wild, and everyone loved it!

‘She loves to drink champagne, particularly Moet, and she chain-smokes Camel cigarettes.’

Robie has been linked to several women, including fashion stylist Sophia Hesketh, whose father is Lord Hesketh – a former Conservative party treasurer who later joined UKIP and once owned a Formula One racing team – and his two ex-wives.

Reportedly, Ms. Hesketh was the first girl to kiss Prince Harry. She was 19 years old when they began dating, 19 years younger than his current age of 43 – making their age difference larger than the one he has with his present partner.

Let me tell you, I’ve heard the most fascinating story! Apparently, Lord Hesketh was absolutely furious about Sophia and Robie being together. He was so upset, he actually offered money to anyone who could convince Sophia to end things with Robie – can you believe it? It just goes to show how strong emotions can sometimes lead people to do… well, unusual things!

Rosamund Pike was previously engaged to director Joe Wright, whom she met while filming the 2005 movie version of Pride & Prejudice.

They ended their relationship in the summer of 2008, just a couple of weeks before they were supposed to get married. Pike later said she never understood why, explaining that he never gave a clear reason, which made the breakup even more baffling.

Joe Wright quickly remarried, this time to Indian musician Anoushka Shankar, and they had two children together. However, they divorced in 2019.

He’s been with American actress Haley Bennett since 2017, and they live in Somerset with their daughter.

In the movie Pride & Prejudice, actress Jena Malone played Jane Bennet, and Simon Woods, who she dated for two years while they were both students at Oxford University, portrayed Charles Bingley.

They parted ways in 2002 but remained friends, after he came to terms with his sexuality.

He is currently in a civil partnership with Christopher Bailey, who used to be the CEO of the British fashion house Burberry.

Her partner, Uniacke, is known for being a bit unusual but very talented, and he also moves in famous circles – he’s friends with actor Hugh Grant, for example.

Tatler magazine once described him as a reclusive and enigmatic figure, known for collecting rare books and often seen in the South Kensington area.

You know, I’ve heard a lot about this person, and a friend of mine once described him perfectly to the Daily Mail. He said, despite not being much for appearances – a bit of a scruff, really – he’s incredibly charming and has a real magnetic personality. It’s that classic ‘likeable rogue’ vibe – a little rough around the edges, but people are instantly drawn to him.

Even Pike has complimented his intelligence. She previously described him as a very bright and insightful person who is incredibly well-read, speaks eloquently, and carefully considers how her work will appear on screen.

I often get really invested in characters and tend to read between the lines, imagining details that aren’t explicitly written. He’s skilled at helping me stay grounded and focus on what’s actually there.

Robie and Pike now jointly own a real estate company called Santi Limited, which holds the title to their property in Islington.

The company is worth £2,217,240 and has additional assets of £6,098, but its debts total £2,396,028. This leaves the business with a net loss of £172,690.

Uniacke controls 80% of the shares in Primitive Streak, a company established in 2019 to pursue other business interests, while Pike owns the remaining 20%.

As of 2024, the company held almost £740,000 in assets, with £500,000 of that being cash. However, they also had outstanding debts of £737,000.

As of last year, the company’s assets had fallen to a little over £255,000, and it still owed £253,600 to its creditors. It only had £850 in savings then, but that number has now increased to £1,744.

In 2021, Uniacke started a business called Solus Rex Limited, offering management consulting services. The company closed in 2024, with approximately £59 remaining in its accounts as of 2023.

In 2010, he started another company, an IT consultancy named Pale Fire Limited, but it almost led to his financial ruin.

The company went bankrupt and was officially closed down in 2016, leaving Uniacke with a significant debt of £131,034 from an outstanding business loan.

He offered liquidators £10,000 to settle the debt, which was rejected.

They finally sent me a breakdown of Mr. Uniacke’s finances, and it was pretty shocking – it showed he had absolutely no income and owned nothing of value. It was a really clear picture of his financial situation.

As a lifestyle expert, I often see situations where understanding someone’s financial picture is key. In this case, I asked for a thorough assessment of Mr. Uniacke’s wealth to get a clear picture of his assets. The results were quite definitive – the report confirmed he had absolutely no assets to his name.

He finally offered £25,000, which was accepted because it was a more favorable outcome than trying to get the money back through legal action and potentially forcing Mr. Uniacke into bankruptcy.

This resulted in his creditors, primarily the tax authorities (HMRC), receiving only £11,684.49 out of the £167,010 they were owed – less than seven percent of the total debt.

He may not have succeeded at every step but his life has never been dull.

As Pike described it, Uniacke was the most fascinating person he had ever met.
