Meet ‘Gangsta Granny’: Rockstar’s Wild Past Exposed by Her Own Grandkids!

Jo Wood shares a humorous moniker bestowed upon her by her grandkids, as they are well-aware of her lively history with drugs and the rock ‘n’ roll scene.

In her youth, the ex-wife of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood had a reputation for living it up at parties.

After sharing stories about her past exploits with them, her grandchildren started referring to her as ‘Gangster Gran’.

On the Good Housekeeping UK podcast “My Life in A Biscuit Tin”, Jo mentioned: ‘I shouldn’t really be saying it, but there I was in the car with them, and Maggie and Kobe were both giggling.’

‘They went, “Gran, have you done any drugs?” I said, “Of course I have, but I don’t recommend it”.

‘I said, “Because it didn’t get me anywhere except lots of sleepless nights”. 

She emphasized the significance of being truthful with family members, stating that “Lying to them won’t work, as they’ll eventually discover the truth.

‘I had advised them that their efforts were futile, however, I was in a unique predicament. As a result, they began referring to me as “Gangster Grandma”.’

Jo was wedded to rocker Ronnie for a span of 24 years from 1985 to 2011, during which they had children Leah (aged 46) and Ty­­­rone (aged 41). Additionally, Jo took on the role of stepmother to Ronnie’s son Jesse, who is 48 years old, from his previous marriage.

In addition, Jo is a mother to another child named Jamie, who is 50 years old, from her previous marriage with clothing entrepreneur Peter Greene.

The star has 10 grandchildren in total, four from Jamie, two from Leah and four from Jesse.  

Previously, it was disclosed that Jo traded her lively nightlife for a serene eco-friendly country dwelling last year.

In the year 2019, the television celebrity decided to relocate to an antique farmhouse, adopting a self-sufficient lifestyle that includes producing her own power and cultivating her very own vegetable garden.

In my fervent admiration, I’d say she primarily exists off the grid, living an almost self-sustaining life. She’s swapped her past nights of socializing with cocktails and joints for nurturing homegrown vegetables instead. And to top it all off, she’s crafting a capsule supplement named Longevity, aiming to enhance her health even further.

In a conversation with The Telegraph, Jo openly acknowledged that she doesn’t possess an addictive character trait, which facilitated her decision to leave behind the party scene when she unexpectedly realized that such a lifestyle didn’t align with her personal desires.

She shared: “I can go on drinking all night, feel terrible the next day, then abstain for several days after. It was never an issue for me. Previously, I would smoke a joint every evening, but one day I decided ‘No, I don’t want this any longer’ and quit. I consider myself fortunate in that regard.

Following the discovery of an incorrect diagnosis (Crohn’s disease), Jo switched to organic food in 1991 after learning that she actually had a perforated appendix, which had been previously undetected.

‘I laid in hospital and said to myself “from now on, I will be an organic girl”,’ Jo explained. 

Her fascination with organic products sparked her curiosity about the use of plastics and chemicals in cosmetics, eventually resulting in the creation of her fragrance brand, Joss Stone Organics.

The celebrity convinced Ronnie to adopt a balanced diet, and her son Jamie humorously suggested that he moved out due to his mother’s relentless focus on healthy living.

She mentioned: ‘My intention is to live a life that spans eternity. That’s the objective. I am determined to reach a ripe old age so I can witness the future of my grandchildren.’
