Following the emotional reading of “The Hunger Games: Sunrise at the Reaping,” I find myself both eager and apprehensive about re-experiencing the story as it’s set to be adapted into a film. Production for the movie began in Europe this summer, which has been delightful to witness as the District 12 tributes interact on set. However, watching their journey isn’t entirely enjoyable considering the grim subject matter of the film.
McKenna Grace, an actress from the cast of “The Sunrise on the Reaping,” as Maysilee Donner, recently shared a charming TikTok video featuring her and fellow actors Joseph Zada (Haymitch) and Iona Bell (Lou Lou). In the clip, they participate in one of TikTok’s dance trends set to the music of The Cranberries’ “Sunday.” Here’s the link to their fun moment: [TikTok Link]

The three of them look incredibly cute! They wore matching bear shirts and truly took the song lyrics about spinning around to heart, even lifting their feet off the ground as they danced. It seems like they’re having a cozy sleepover together while filming Sunrise on the Reaping, but as Grace pointed out in her caption, one District 12 tribute is missing: Ben Wang, who will portray Wyatt Callow.
Grace labeled the video with hashtags like “#BringBackBenWang #WyattWeMissYou” since it appears the actor portraying Wyatt is no longer present on set. Although you may not have read the book, everyone going into the new Hunger Games installment assumes Haymitch will be the sole survivor at the end of the 50th Hunger Games. Consequently, watching this TikTok left me feeling a bit melancholic. The sentiment is heightened even more since they had shared joyous moments together before.

Did you know that Ben Wang is joining the cast of the upcoming film “The Long Walk”? This is a Stephen King adaptation directed by Francis Lawrence, who previously worked on “Sunrise on the Reaping”. The movie will be in theaters on September 12. It’s about another intense competition where teenagers are forced to keep walking until only one remains.
The actress from “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” makes a valid observation! It’s only fair that Ben Wang, having starred in those two bleak dystopian sci-fi productions resembling “survival games,” should take on a comedy role next.
Just this week, initial reactions to the film “The Long Walk” have been released, with critics calling it a remarkable work that echoes both “The Outsiders” and “Full Metal Jacket”, and a faithful adaptation of Stephen King’s novel. So mark your calendars – you can catch Ben Wang in “The Long Walk” on September 12 at the theater near you!
On the other hand, “The Sunrise on the Reaping” is currently slated for release in 2026 and will premiere on November 20. In the meantime, his fellow cast members are eagerly awaiting his return to set.
