Maya Jama wows in a summery white dress as she leaves first night of new play Shifters after she was revealed as one of the project’s producers
As a seasoned observer of the ever-evolving world of entertainment, I must say that Maya Jama has truly come into her own as a multi-talented star. Her journey from Love Island host to BRIT Awards presenter, Vogue cover girl, and Dolce & Gabbana ambassador is nothing short of remarkable. The fact that she’s managed to maintain her status as one of the UK’s brightest stars despite a less-than-stellar spin-off season says a lot about her resilience and adaptability.
On the first evening of the premiere of Shifters, where she serves as a producer, Maya Jama captivated in a fresh, white gown before her departure.
30-year-old Love Island’s host left the Duke of York theater following the show, turning heads in a stylish off-the-shoulder outfit on her way home.
A week ago, I learned that I would collaborate on the West End adaptation of Shifters, originally produced by Bush Theatre, alongside the esteemed actor Idris Elba, aged 51, and the talented artist Little Simz.
The group responsible for staging the play will also include Eleanor Lloyd Productions, Chuchu Nwagu Productions, and Sonia Friedman Productions, making it a collaborative effort by these four parties.
Upon exiting, Maya finished off her ensemble with a chic pair of slide-on sandals, while casually carrying a sleek black leather handbag on her shoulder.
She let down her long, brown hair in soft curls that cascaded over her shoulders, and she chose a subtle, au naturel makeup style.
Last week, Maya expressed her eagerness in a statement about the play, stating, “I can hardly wait to contribute to the West End debut of Benedict Lombe’s captivating piece, Shifters.”
From the instant I began reading the play, I became captivated by it – I seem to recognize these characters, understand their tale, and what makes this even more special is seeing a reflection of myself in the artwork. That’s truly the heart of the experience for me.
She added: ‘I sincerely wish that you come to cherish these characters and their tale just as deeply as I do.’
Idris commented: “The play, brilliantly penned by Benedict Lombe and superbly acted by Heather Agyepong and Tosin Cole, is such an honor for us to contribute to its move to the West End.”
Little Simz felt deeply touched after watching Shifters, expressing that Tosin and Heather delivered Benedict’s lines with such sincerity and authenticity.
1. “Their presentations were outstanding! It’s wonderful to see them back on stage at the West End, as this tale is crucial and deserves a wide audience. Secure your seats quickly, lest you miss out!”
As a person who has spent a considerable amount of time reflecting on my past relationships and their impact on my present, I find the synopsis for this play particularly resonant. The idea that memories from our teenage years can intertwine with our current experiences, compelling us to confront unresolved questions about fate and destiny, is something I’ve personally encountered many times in my life. I believe this play will strike a chord with anyone who has ever pondered the intricate dance between the past and the present, and the mysterious ways in which our lives can be influenced by events that happened long ago.
‘Shifters serves as a captivating, memorable, and relatable portrayal of the lasting influence of memories and youthful affection.’
The upcoming performance of “Shifters” in the West End will take place on August 12 at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre. This show will run until October 12. Get your tickets now!
Maya gained widespread recognition across the country following her high-profile role as host of the popular Love Island television show.
Since then, the presenter has secured various notable roles such as hosting The BRIT Awards, Comic Relief, representing Dolce & Gabbana, and appearing on the cover of Vogue magazine.
However, since the finale of Love Island: All Stars in January recorded its lowest viewership, there’s uncertainty about her possible return next year.
“Nick Ede, a public relations specialist, informed TopMob that despite Maya parting ways with her boyfriend Stormzy after ‘Love Island’ and ending its latest season, she remains one of the United Kingdom’s most prominent and shining celebrities.”
