Maxton Hall Season 2 Stars React To The Finale’s Devastating Ending

The season finale of Maxton Hall – The World Between Us leaves the show’s central couple facing a difficult situation. After a season filled with emotional highs and lows – including a funeral and dealing with bullies, lost opportunities, and broken hopes – James’ father takes his most shocking action yet in the dramatic finale of Maxton Hall season 2.

Mortimer Beaufort is determined to separate James and Ruby, so he falsely accuses Ruby of having an affair with her teacher, Mr. Sutton. The truth is, Mortimer’s daughter, Lydia, was actually having a relationship with Sutton and is now pregnant. However, Mortimer is unaware of this and only wants to ruin Ruby’s life.

The consequences are severe: Ruby is suspended from Maxton Hall, which threatens her lifelong dream of going to Oxford University. In a conversation with Swooon, Herbig-Matten described Ruby’s feelings as everything began to fall apart.

Watching that scene, it struck me that the character is completely lost and confused. You can practically feel the whirlwind of questions and emotions going through her head. It’s devastating to see someone lose absolutely everything they’ve worked for – it’s a truly heartbreaking moment, and the actress really sells it.

Ruby might be able to protect herself by revealing Lydia’s secret, but Herbig-Matten doesn’t think she would. She believes Ruby is a loyal friend who wouldn’t put Lydia in danger or expose her. As Herbig-Matten told Swooon, “That’s the positive thing about Ruby, that she would never do that, and she would never call her out.”

Ruby isn’t the only one suffering because of Mortimer’s actions. The events surrounding Ruby also deeply impact James and his already difficult relationship with his father, as well as his own emotional state. According to actor Hardung, in an interview with Swooon, James briefly thought his father might show some compassion after the events of episode 5, so he was completely unprepared for what happened next.

Before everything changed, Ruby and James had planned to openly share their relationship with everyone they knew—their friends at school and even James’s father. They believed being together was worth any challenges they might face. According to Hardung, they felt strong enough to handle anything because they were focused on creating a future together.

It’s unclear if Ruby and others will recover after Mortimer takes his revenge – he’s impacted more than just Ruby, as her mother also lost her job because of his actions. The show Maxton Hall is currently filming a third season, which will likely be the last.

Hardung explained that Ruby and James have always supported each other and fought for their relationship, making it fitting that their story continues in the third book, Save Us. He described their connection as a strong bond against the world.

The photo Mortimer used against Ruby in the season two finale was actually taken by James way back in season one, before they became a couple. This could still cause problems for their relationship. However, after everything James and Ruby have experienced together in seasons one and two of Maxton Hall – The World Between Us, they’re sure to do everything they can to make things work in season three.
