Maxine Peake’s “gripping” thriller centred on a detective and a missing person gets first look

I’m so excited! Apple TV just gave us a first look at their new thriller, and it looks amazing. It stars Maxine Peake, who you might know from Black Mirror, and it’s based on a book called The Dispatcher by Ryan David Jahn. It seems like it’s going to be a really intense, high-stakes show, and it’s coming to Apple TV later this year – I can’t wait!

Joining Tristan Peake, Patrick Brammall (from The Devil Wears Prada 2) plays Ian Ridley, a police detective whose life fell apart when his daughter, Maggie, went missing. Eleven years later, he’s working as a dispatcher but remains focused on finding her.

So, in the game, my character gets this call – sounds exactly like my daughter, Maggie. I absolutely have to find her, no matter what it takes, even if it destroys everything else. It’s all about getting my family back together, and I’ll do anything to make that happen.

The show’s cast now includes Brendan Cowell (known for Dune: Prophecy), Daniel Henshall (Mickey 17), Jessica Wren (Devil’s Playground), and Zahra Newman (Neighbours). New actress Chloe Jean Lourdes is also joining the team.

Christian Schwochow, known for his work on The Crown, directed and oversaw production of the six-episode series. Jamie Laurenson and Hakan Kousetta of 60Forty Films – the company behind Hijack and Slow Horses – also produced it.

What to Read Next

I’ve been checking out what people are saying about The Dispatcher on Goodreads, and honestly, it sounds amazing! A lot of reviewers are calling it a real thrill ride – one of those books you just can’t put down. Someone even said it was a total adrenaline rush and that they absolutely loved it, which definitely has me wanting to check it out!

The new series, Last Seen, will premiere worldwide on September 9, 2026. New episodes will be released each Wednesday through October 7th.

This show is the newest project for Peake, who will play the main role in the Norfolk-based drama The Bright Side Running Club. Gemma Jones will also star in the series, which was confirmed in May 2026.

Inspired by Josie Lloyd’s 2023 novel, The Cancer Ladies’ Running Club, the movie tells the story of a woman whose life falls apart after a breast cancer diagnosis, leading her to find support and strength by joining a running club.

Lloyd is adapting her book into a script for The Bright Side Running Club, and Sheree Folkson, known for her work on Doctor Who, will direct the project.

Last month, a compelling historical drama featuring Peake and Rory Kinnear started streaming on Prime Video in the UK.
