Maximizing Your Day at Epic Universe’s Super Nintendo World: Insider Tips and Tricks
Universal Studios’ Epic Universe has officially opened its doors to the public, and while some might debate whether it could rival Disney World or not, there’s no disputing that it offers a fantastic theme park experience upon visiting. This is particularly true if you’re an ardent Nintendo enthusiast like myself, as I recently had the pleasure of taking my daughter to explore the magical realm of Super Nintendo World in person.
Indeed, it surpasses all depictions through videos and photos; the splendor was truly breathtaking. Spending an entire day immersed in the theme park with my seven-year-old was nothing short of delightful. We rode attractions, searched high and low for popcorn buckets, and had a simply marvelous time. As a bonus, I picked up some useful tips to enhance the experience, and I’m eager to share these insights with fellow visitors in advance, so they can fully savor their own unforgettable park adventure.
The Power-Up Band Is A Must
I tend to be thrifty, and I usually decline the additional features or extras offered at theme parks. For instance, this time around, I chose not to purchase an express pass for myself and my daughter; I’ll elaborate on that decision in the upcoming section.
As a budget-conscious individual, I opted against purchasing the Power-Up Band for myself (despite Jessica Rawden’s recommendation from CB), but I fully grasped the rationale behind acquiring one for my daughter. The main allure of the park lies in the immersive feeling of being inside a real Super Mario Bros. video game, and without the band, you risk missing out on that unique gaming experience.
As a die-hard Disney fan, I know the pinch of shelling out for a Disney Magic Band that seems to deliver less bang for your buck compared to an authentic one. But let me tell you, once you’ve witnessed someone strike a question block for coins or experienced it yourself for the first time, all that frustration just melts away. It’s a sensation that never loses its charm, and trust me, there are plenty of other fun surprises in store when you step inside.
There’s this hidden, thrilling journey beneath the Mushroom Kingdom called an “underground” experience, where you scour the underbelly of the kingdom. With your Magic Band, you can unlock cool hidden gems and secrets along the way. It’s a secret world that adds an extra layer of magic to your Disney adventure!
If you’re someone who appreciates recognition, this band accumulates digital badges and incentives for all the different accomplishments you earn during your time at the park. Since we didn’t manage to finish everything in one day, there’s a good reason to keep it, just in case you decide to come back later. Also, I’ve noticed that this band can act as an amiibo if you own a Nintendo Switch, so make sure to store it safely if you plan on buying one.

You Can Do The Park Without An Express Pass, But If You Have Plans Elsewhere You Should Splurge
Readers are well aware that visiting Orlando doesn’t come cheap. A day spent at the most popular theme park in the region, followed by a day at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom the next day, left my wallet in tears. To make matters worse, I had already purchased a premium pass for Magic Kingdom, so I decided to save money by not getting an Express Pass for the three rides at Super Nintendo World.
Initially, our intention was to explore Super Nintendo World, take a peek at other praised areas within the park, and leave by dinnertime with family who didn’t accompany us. However, during my seven-hour visit, we ended up spending the entire time in Super Nintendo World, with most of it spent queuing for rides like Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, Yoshi’s Adventure, and Mine Cart Madness.
If you want to explore the entire park efficiently, I’d recommend getting an express pass. Keep in mind that lines can get quite lengthy and bumpy during summer days, but if comfort is a priority for you, it’s worth considering. As a bonus, the queue for Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is indoors, air-conditioned, filled with fun easter eggs, and surprisingly enjoyable to wait in, even on busy days.
Regrettably, Yoshi’s Adventure and Mine Cart Madness aren’t as rich as Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island or Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3. You can finish them quickly without losing much, and the art, music, or even a great soundtrack can’t quite make up for the long hours spent in the heat. If you value comfort or time, it’s worth investing in the Express Pass.

Be Prepared For Things You Want To Be Unavailable
At Epic Universe, I had one goal – to acquire a Donkey Kong mug from The Bubbly Barrel, which came as a freebie with the purchase of the DK Crush Float. For weeks prior, I’d envisioned myself sipping something through it. In fact, I even intended on sharing the float with my daughter while we queued for Donkey Kong: Mine-Cart Madness. By the way, that roller coaster was as thrilling in person as it appeared online, but surprisingly more intense and frightening than you might expect for a seven-year-old.

I Went On Every Ride At Epic Universe. One Ride Stood Out Above Them All
Upon my arrival, The Bubbly Barrel’s machine was out of order, which was disappointing because I couldn’t get the souvenir cup or float. Since I couldn’t buy it in the store, I had no choice but to ask for an alternative solution.
When I wrapped up my visit to Epic Universe, there were two items I had hoped to take home but couldn’t find – a Bowser shirt featuring a neon logo and a specific merchandise item I can’t seem to locate in the store. Despite purchasing a Donkey Kong drinking glass that I adore, I left feeling slightly let down because I didn’t get the items I had my heart set on.
In other words, during my visit to Super Nintendo World, it was incredibly packed with people, and I expect it will remain busy for quite some time. Since there’s a limited supply of merchandise, it’s best not to get your hopes up on acquiring any specific item until you arrive and can guarantee you’ll be able to purchase it. Moreover, the queue at The Bubbly Barrel is usually lengthy, even when the machine is operational, so keep in mind that waiting is inevitable if you wish to buy a mug like I did.
In summary, I must admit that Epic Universe was an absolute delight, and I eagerly anticipate returning for more fun. Do make a point to explore it yourself, and remember my advice on how to get the most out of Super Nintendo World for an unforgettable experience.
