Max George reveals he made a heartbreaking decision while in hospital for emergency heart operation after fearing he’d die

Max George shared that he was compelled to draft a will, following his concerns about potential mortality during a critical heart surgery in the hospital.

36-year-old singer from The Wanted underwent a pacemaker implantation following a hospital stay due to heart complications that he encountered in December.

Max managed to get out in time for Christmas and is currently recuperating at home, receiving care from his girlfriend Maisie Smith, who is 23 years old.

In a recent interview, the artist shared his struggles with intense anxiety he experienced while hospitalized among patients significantly older than him, and revealed that he had set emergency instructions on his iPhone in case of an untimely end.

He shared with The Sun, “On that initial night, I drafted a will, as I believed I was about to perish. If I could plummet from feeling completely on top of the world to learning ‘the lower part of your heart isn’t functioning,’ I often pondered in my mind, ‘What if the upper half ceases to function suddenly?’

The artist who created “The Glad You Came” shared that learning he required a pacemaker due to the lower part of his heart not functioning correctly, caused him to understand the importance of his duties as he contemplated the people he would leave behind if something were to happen.

Speaking about the terrifying and restless initial night at the hospital, Max shared his experience of finding it hard to get around and dealt with various other issues such as a feeling of constriction in his throat and taking long, shallow breaths.

Two days following the drafting of his will, Max experienced another bout of distress as his pulse rate and blood pressure plummeted, prompting him to express that it was the most challenging day he encountered during his hospitalization.

He expressed: “That night, I came very near to a critical point. The sensation was as if my throat was constricting, which triggered intense fear within me. I thought I was about to perish. It was unbearably distressing; I became deeply emotional.

Fortunately for Max, his pacemaker was implanted a week into his hospital stay, with him remaining alert during the procedure, despite being deeply anesthetized.

He too recalled the distressing image of the surgeon’s hand, stained with blood, as he withdrew it, yet he felt a surge of excitement at the prospect of making a recovery at last.

Following his surgery recovery, the lead vocalist of All Time Low felt immense joy upon being welcomed back by Maisie. It was at this very instant when he felt rejuvenated, as if he had regained his true self and experienced a renewed sense of humanity.

By that point, I too had a regular heartbeat, and my pulse began racing rapidly. This made me feel a tingling sensation in my feet, as if the blood was circulating properly. It was quite an intense moment when I exclaimed, “Wow, I feel alive once more!”, a sensation that was truly invigorating.

Despite Maisie abandoning her pantomime responsibilities to rush up north to be with him, it was actually Babs, Max’s mom, who played a crucial role in saving his life by acting swiftly.

At the moment he started feeling unwell, Max was residing with a 63-year-old healthcare worker in Manchester. The ex-footballer experienced fatigue, severe coldness, and discoloration of his hands turning blue.

It was actually Babs who decided that Max should visit the general practitioner, even though he himself didn’t view the situation as particularly serious initially.

After George revealed details about his tough journey back to health following his unexpected heart surgery towards the end of last year, that’s when…

On Wednesday, the musician posted a video on Instagram showing him strolling at a leisurely pace on a treadmill, working diligently to regain his fitness after surgery.

Max appeared in good spirits and turned to give the camera a thumbs up.

Despite the prospect of celebrating Christmas in a hospital, miraculously, he managed to go back home, rejoining his beloved girlfriend, Maisie Smith there.

At the close of 2024, I’ll be taking a moment on Instagram to reminisce and pen down thoughts about a year that will undoubtedly remain etched in my memory.
