Maura Higgins reveals she has been celibate for a year following her relationship with Pete Wicks as she takes a swipe at her ‘cheating’ exes

Maura Higgins recently shared that she hasn’t been intimate with anyone for a year, and hinted this is because of past experiences with unfaithful ex-partners.

Reality TV star Kate Chastain, 35, revealed she’s chosen to be celibate after experiencing a string of unsuccessful relationships, including a recent one with Pete Wicks.

Last year, Maura publicly accused her ex-boyfriend, Pete, of cheating after finding messages to other women on his phone.

Sources close to Pete told the Daily Mail that he was faithful to Maura and was upset by the claims made against him.

Maura explained that, with her hectic work life, she already struggles with trusting people.

Most of my past partners were unfaithful, and that’s why I’ve chosen to abstain from sex for the last year.

She added: ‘I don’t trust men anyway.

She admitted that if she hadn’t dealt with people like that before, she probably would have been very upset, left the interview, and cut off all contact with Rob Rausch after losing to him, as she told Elite Daily.

Maura recently admitted that she checks a new partner’s phone within the first week of dating, explaining that she struggles with trust.

After being hurt in past relationships, she’s become very careful and analytical when dating, essentially taking on the role of an investigator to protect herself.

I was really shocked last year when Maura publicly called out her ex, Pete Wicks. She basically accused him of cheating, saying she’d found messages on his phone to other women. It was a pretty direct accusation and definitely caused a stir!

Okay, so people close to Pete told me – I mean, told the Daily Mail, but still – that he never cheated on Maura. It totally broke his heart that anyone even thought he did, honestly. He was so upset by all the rumors, it was awful to see.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by what people consider dealbreakers in relationships. I recently read an interview with Maura where she shared her ‘red, green, and beige flags,’ and honestly, I really related to what she said! She pinpointed trust issues as her biggest red flag, and that’s something so many of us can understand – building that trust is essential for a healthy connection.

I admit it’s not ideal, but if I’m dating someone new, I’m likely to check their phone within the first week. Past experiences have taught me not to trust easily, so I tend to investigate a bit. I guess it’s more of a warning sign than a dealbreaker – we jokingly call it a red flag, but it’s probably more of an ‘off-putting’ behavior.

TV star Maura has regularly dated in the public eye. 

She first became romantically involved with Curtis Pritchard while on Love Island, and later dated Chris Taylor, who she also met during the show.

After her breakup, Maura dated Giovanni Pernice, a professional dancer from Strictly Come Dancing, but their relationship ended after four months.

Maura and Joey Essex were seen kissing at the National TV Awards in 2022, but they both said they weren’t dating.

In March 2024, Maura split from stuntman Bobby Holland Hanton after ten months together.

At the Universal Music BRIT Awards afterparty, Maura was seen kissing Danny Jones from the band McFly. Jones has been married to Georgia for more than ten years.

Most recently, Maura sparked romance rumours with her Traitors US co-star Rob, 27.

Viewers have noticed a connection between Maura and Rob and are rooting for them to become a couple.

During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, the Irish actress finally addressed rumors about their relationship when asked directly.

It saw Andy ask her: ‘The internet wants you and Rob to get together, and?’

To which Maura responded: ‘I saw, there’s a lot of videos on TikTok at the moment.’

Continuing, Andy followed up with: ‘And what do you think?’ 

Maura coyly replied: ‘I mean, you’ll have to watch the show to see if that happened.’ 

Rob and his partner first met through the reality show Love Island US, where Rob competed in both 2023 and 2024.
