Matthew McConaughey kept distance from mom for EIGHT YEARS due to her invasive press leaks

For almost ten years, Matthew McConaughey limited contact with his mother, Kay, after discovering she was sharing private information with the media.

The 55-year-old Oscar-winning actor and his 93-year-old mother recently discussed with People magazine the difficult situation that arose when he discovered his mother was sharing private information with others, breaking his trust.

The actor, known for his role in Dazed and Confused, explained that he didn’t cut ties with his mother entirely, but he became much more careful about what he told her.

The actor explained that for roughly eight years, his conversations with her during their weekly Sunday phone calls had to be brief, as she was revealing a lot of personal information at the time.

The True Detective actor said it didn’t take much effort to figure out the source of the leaks.

McConaughey explained that he would often share something with his mother on Sundays, and then see it reported in the news or local paper by Tuesday.

Kay, who plays the mother of Kevin McKay (played by McConaughey) in the AppleTV+ thriller *The Lost Bus*, explained that production had been temporarily paused, saying, ‘We were on a hiatus.’

Matthew McConaughey, who shares three children – Levi, 17, Vida, 15, and Livingston, 12 – with his wife Camila Alves, explained things a bit differently in a recent interview.

‘We had some boring conversations on Sunday,’ he said. ‘I wouldn’t tell you s***.’

Matthew explained that things changed when Kay allowed reporters access to his childhood home, and he later saw the coverage on TV.

You know, when I was giving a tour of the house, I pointed out Matthew’s bedroom, and it was a really poignant moment. Someone actually called out and asked if he was seeing what I was up to – it was a bit surreal, honestly, and really highlighted the family dynamics at play.

Kay added, ‘I was so proud that I was just telling the world.’

Matthew was annoyed that his mother had invaded his privacy, but he had to admit she responded with a witty remark when he confronted her about it.

Matthew explained that whenever he calls his mother, she always picks up. He’d ask her what she’d been up to, and she’d respond with just ‘What?’ which frustrated him, and he’d tell her not to answer that way.

He mentioned he could hear the TV show he was watching while she filmed a house tour, and she jokingly admitted, “Oh, that. I didn’t think you’d notice.”

Eventually, McConaughey realized that his connection with his mother mattered more to him than any potential embarrassment she might cause him professionally.

McConaughey reached a point in his career and life where he felt secure enough to not let his mother’s opinions bother him. He decided to stop trying to manage her comments and simply let her speak her mind.

Matthew explained that his mother has become more considerate of his need for privacy since they took some time apart.

He explained that when they went to red carpet events, she’d ask if there were any restrictions. He’d tell her, ‘No, say whatever you want, even the most outrageous things.’ And she did, and everything was okay.

He added, ‘It’s much more fun now.’
