Matthew Lillard expresses his apprehension about rejoining the cast of Scream, confessing that he feels a “little bit scared” to return.
Originally in the ’96 horror movie masterpiece, Stu Macher, portrayed by Lillard, was unmasked as one of the killers known as Ghostface. His accomplice, Billy Loomis (played by Skeet Ulrich), was also found to be involved in these gruesome murders.
Initially, the duo carried out multiple murders. Eventually, they met their just desserts by being killed themselves towards the finale of the movie.
This year, it became known that Damian Lillard will once again take on his memorable character in the seventh movie of the series. During an appearance at 90s Con, he shared his excitement about coming back to the role.
In simpler terms, Lillard expressed to Breanne L. Heldman of People, “I won’t comment on it directly, but it’s clear. I’m both thrilled and apprehensive to return because the only thing I can possibly do is mess up an established legacy we have.

My concern is that I might fail terribly, and this worry stems from the possibility that, despite my best efforts, I may not have control over something that could turn out just fine without me. I hope I don’t let everyone down in the process.
Excitedly, I couldn’t help but express my joy when I learned about Stu Macher’s comeback. To mark the occasion, I shared a mysterious post on Instagram that echoed an iconic line from the original Scream movie: “My parents are going to be so disappointed in me!

Besides Lillard, the upcoming “Scream 7” will reprise the roles of Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, and Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. Notably, they’ll return to the franchise following their absence in “Scream 6.
As a die-hard “Scream” fan, I’m thrilled to share that even though Roman Bridger, the sinister movie director (portrayed by Scott Foley), was supposedly killed off in “Scream 3”, he’s set to return, joining forces with Deputy Dewey Riley (David Arquette), who met his untimely end in “Scream 5”. It seems death isn’t as final in the world of “Scream” as we thought!
Furthermore, actresses Isabel May, Anna Camp, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, and Sam Rechner have been added to the cast.
Scream 7 will be released in cinemas on February 27, 2026.
