Matthew Byars, who appeared on the 'Real Housewives' with Karen Huger, dies at 37

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Matthew Byars, a friend and colleague who brought light and laughter into many lives. As someone who had known him since he was a teenager, I can attest to his resilience and determination. He was not just a member of Karen Huger’s management team; he was a young man with dreams and aspirations, striving to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry.

Matthew Byars, a brief cast member and talent manager on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Potomac,” has tragically passed away at the age of 37.

On Friday, it was officially confirmed by the spokesperson of the Maryland Chief Medical Examiner’s Office to The Times that Byars had passed away on Thursday due to “multiple traumatic injuries caused by blunt force,” and they classified the cause of death as suicide.

No additional details were immediately available.

A non-talent on Bravo, Byars, was acquainted with multiple reality TV personalities from the cable network’s “housewives” series. He made his debut in Season 3 of “Real Housewives of Potomac” as part of Karen Huger’s management team. Notably, he attended her tense “press conference,” which Huger organized to dispel rumors about her financial troubles and, in her own words, to identify who her true friends were.

Representatives for Huger did not immediately respond Friday to The Times’ requests for comment.

Back in 2019, I shared an intimate conversation with Byars during an interview with The Daily Dish. Since his teenage years, we’ve been companions, and I’ve always been there to lend a helping hand when he faced challenging times.

Many folks in Potomac affectionately refer to me as ‘Mama Karen’ due to my passion for assisting the younger generation,” she explained. “In tough times, I offered guidance by suggesting he attend school, which he did. Now, we collaborate on various projects.

Among those honoring Byars on social media was Melissa Gorga, a cast member from “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.

Matt, I’m sorry to say this, but why didn’t you share something with me about you, Matt? Gorga shared a video of us on Instagram on Friday and expressed his sadness. He said he’s heartbroken because your lively spirit was contagious, and your humor was never-ending. You had the talent for stand-up comedy – I can tell it was something you dreamed about. It hurts me, Matt, because earlier this week you didn’t confide in me about whatever it is that’s troubling you.

She acknowledged that life had been difficult, ‘I understand,’ she said. ‘Thank you for presenting me with my first performance of ‘ON DISPLAY’, it was a joint effort between us – we are loyal to each other. They don’t produce pairs like ours. I wish I could have protected you. Thank you for the moments… Go soar – Go bring laughter.

On her Instagram story, “RHOP” cast member Charrisse Jackson-Jordan posted a picture with Byars and wrote, “Farewell.” (This means the same as “Rest In Peace.”)
