Mattel released a statement following an error in the labeling of their Wicked dolls, which accidentally led enthusiasts to an adult content site.
As a gamer, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the toy company’s versions of Elphaba (portrayed by Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande). However, it turned out that these toys came with an unexpected surprise – a labelling mix-up! It seems I got more than what I initially expected.
Instead of directing to the official webpage for the Universal Pictures’ Wicked Movie adaptation (WickedMovie.com), the website listed on the toy box mistakenly linked to an adult content site (Wicked.com).
In response to the issue that occurred, Mattel has stated they are swiftly addressing the error, and a possible recall of the products may follow.
A representative from Mattel recently informed us that there was an incorrect labeling issue on their Wicked collection dolls’ packaging, mainly distributed in the U.S., meant to guide customers to the official WickedMovie.com website. We sincerely apologize for this unintended mistake and are swiftly addressing the situation to correct it. (This information was shared with Variety by a Mattel spokesperson.)
The message suggests that parents be informed about the inaccurate website they’ve accessed being unsuitable for children.
Users who currently own the product are recommended to either throw away the product’s packaging or cover any identifying features, and they can reach out to Mattel’s Customer Service for additional details.
Regarding the incorrect URL, the connection to the Wicked Pictures site has an ‘about’ page that discloses the adult film studio, known for productions like “Black Widow XXX” and “Captain Marvel XXX: an Axel Braun Parody“, as a prominent player in creating high-quality parody pornographic movies.

A user stated, “I’ve just learned that my Mattel WICKED dolls contain a URL to an adult website…unbelievable! What on earth?!” Another commented: “Hey @Mattel, it appears the marketing/packaging team for your new Wicked dolls has made a significant error!
