The film stars Will Smith as Martin Bright, a British journalist based on a real person, with Keira Knightley playing Katharine Gun, an intelligence specialist, alongside Matthew Goode as journalist Peter Beaumont and Ralph Fiennes as lawyer Ben Emmerson.

In addition to Matt Smith, Official Secrets features Rhys Ifans, his co-star from House of the Dragon, as well as Indira Varma, Conleth Hill, Tamsin Greig, Ray Panthaki, Monica Dolan, and Katherine Kelly, making for a strong ensemble cast.
Critics gave Official Secrets a solid 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences on IMDb seem to agree, with many calling it both “excellent” and a surprisingly suspenseful film.
The film Official Secrets, taking place in 2003, centers on Katherine Gun, who receives a confidential memo. This memo reveals that the British government is being asked to assist the United States in gathering potentially damaging information about members of the UN Security Council.
They were trying to force these officials to support invading Iraq through blackmail. Determined to prevent her country from participating in a violent Middle Eastern conflict, Gun decided to share the confidential memo with the media. It eventually reached Martin Bright, a journalist at The Observer.
