Matt Smith’s excellent British thriller is on TV tonight

2019’s political suspense film “Official Secrets” features Keira Knightley portraying the character of British intelligence operative Katharine Gun, while Smith takes on the role of Martin Bright, a real-life journalist. Additionally, Ralph Fiennes plays Ben Emmerson, a lawyer in this dramatic tale based on true events.
According to the account presented in the 2019 book “The Spy Who Tried to Stop a War”, the film narrates the story of Katharine Gun, who chooses to stand against her own government for a higher cause.

This document suggested that Britain was being requested to assist the United States in gathering sensitive information aimed at influencing members of the UN Security Council.
In a different scenario, their intention was to coerce them into supporting an invasion of Iraq through extortion. Unwilling to have her nation involved in a violent conflict in the Middle East, Gun chooses to reveal the confidential memo to the media, and eventually, it lands in the possession of Martin Bright, a journalist from The Observer.
The movie titled “Official Secrets” was generally well-received by critics, with a commendable 82% score (based on 167 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes.
