Matt Smith lands next movie role in Austin Butler crime thriller
As a fan with a penchant for gritty crime thrillers and a soft spot for Matt Smith, I can hardly contain my excitement about his role opposite Austin Butler in “Caught Stealing”. Having grown up in the 90s, the era the movie is set in, the nostalgia factor alone has me hooked. And with Darren Aronofsky at the helm and a stellar cast that includes Liev Schreiber, Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, George Mackay, Noah Jupe, Bill Nighy, Pablo Trapero, and Sarah Polley, this project promises to be nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece.
Matt Smith has landed his next movie role opposite Austin Butler in crime thriller Caught Stealing.
The film, initially unveiled earlier this year, hails from the creative mind of director Darren Aronofsky and draws inspiration from the Charlie Huston book series.
The narrative centers around Hank Thompson, a once successful but now disillusioned baseball player, who finds himself entangled in the gritty criminal scene of downtown New York City during the 1990s, as he struggles to stay alive.
In addition to Matt Smith from “House of the Dragon,” the cast of “Caught Stealing” has also enlisted Liev Schreiber, known for his role in “Ray Donovan.” This comes alongside Zoë Kravitz, who starred in “The Batman,” and Regina King, an Oscar winner. (According to Deadline)
Author Huston has also written the movie’s screenplay.
Regarding the project, director Aronofsky shared his thoughts: “I’m thrilled to be collaborating once again with my longtime friends at Sony Pictures to create a heart-pounding experience based on Charlie. I can hardly wait to begin working alongside Austin and my fellow NYC filmmakers.”
Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group president Sanford Panitch stated: “Darren is among the world’s most gifted audiovisual storytellers, and the prospect of him bringing Charlie Huston’s fantastic books to life with Austin in the lead role was simply an opportunity we couldn’t resist getting involved in.”
Apart from the current project, it’s worth noting that the actor known as Smith also has another one in the pipeline. Lately, he’s agreed to take on a leading role in an upcoming film titled “& Sons“.
1917’s George Mackay, A Quiet Place’s Noah Jupe, and Bill Nighy are expected to appear in the film as well. Pablo Trapero will direct, while Sarah Polley, from Women Talking, will adapt David Gilbert’s novel for the screen.
Caught Stealing is yet to confirm a release date.
