Matt Shirvington takes very surprising on-air swipe at music superstar Pharrell Williams after bizarre Sunrise interview
As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Pharrell Williams‘ recent interview promoting the Lego-themed film Piece by Piece left me both intrigued and slightly puzzled. Known for his infectious energy and upbeat hits, it was surprising to see him come across as rather subdued during this particular conversation.
During a recent interview about the movie “Piece by Piece,” Pharrell Williams left both viewers and Sunrise hosts scratching their heads in bewilderment.
51-year-old The Happy hitmaker had an interview with UK correspondent Steve Hargrave, and throughout the conversation, he kept his distinctive sunglasses securely on his face.
Williams, known for his upbeat hits, was rather flat during the interview.
The interview began with Hargraves quipping, ‘It is a really bright idea. So bright, in fact, that when I sat down with Pharrell, he had to leave his sunglasses on.’
The Blurred Lines hitmaker’s subdued tone left the Sunrise panel perplexed.
In a casual and clear manner: Matt Shirvington noted that despite the upbeat title of his song, “Happy,” he seemed somewhat subdued or unenthusiastic.

Co-host Natalie Barr added, ‘He seemed quite sad. Maybe he was just having a bad day.’
Pharrell initiated the conversation with, “Gratitude is an appropriate term. I believe it’s essential to start each day by reflecting, ‘I am thankful for the day that lies ahead.’
The interview took a deep turn when Pharrell discussed his philosophy of positivity as an ‘exercise’ and touched on themes explored in his new film, which combines Lego with life lessons.
In my perspective, it’s crucial to practice daily doses of positivity, empathy, gratitude, chivalry, and humility, for they are the qualities that truly make a difference in our lives and interactions with others.
In a moment of reflection, Pharrell discussed the origins of Piece by Piece. He explained that the concept for the film took shape when he proposed the idea of narrating a tale through the use of Legos.
Initially, I had no intention of making a movie based on my life experiences. However, upon understanding that I could mold the narrative as I pleased, it sparked an inspiration within me.
The movie delves into Pharrell’s mental health challenges, disclosing some deeply personal experiences, especially during times when he was experiencing great career success.
He recounted the emotional weight of his global hit Happy.

‘It was quite weighty. The second stanza selected me out of everyone to share that song. People adored it since they were experiencing a burden, and I sensed their weight.’
Inside the studio, co-host Edwina Bartholomew recognized the thoughtful tone of our conversation.
‘It was very revealing. The whole interview felt like staring into our souls,’ she said.
Shirvington agreed but noted, ‘Those sunglasses… it’s like they’re staring into your soul.’
