As a long-time TV enthusiast and someone who has seen more than their fair share of peculiar release schedules, I must say that CBS’s approach to “Matlock” is giving me a bit of déjà vu. It reminds me of when they decided to air “Elsbeth” like a rollercoaster with its ups and downs last year.
Once again, Kathy Bates graces our television screens with her presence, portraying Madeline Matlock – a seasoned attorney returning to the workforce in the series Matlock.
Matty isn’t shy about leveraging her years of experience to outshine others. People underestimate her due to her elderly appearance, but soon they’ll discover their mistake. The advantage here is that those who work with her will be surprised by her abilities, perhaps forgetting her true potential in the process. This works well for Matty as it allows her to demonstrate hidden strengths when she enters the workplace.
Matty wants to look at old case files. Why? Well, we need to watch more to find out.
Matlock has a strange release schedule
The unconventional broadcasting pattern adopted by CBS for this latest series has raised some concerns, as it previously posed issues for the show “Elsbeth”. Last season, the strategy of airing one episode followed by a prolonged hiatus negatively impacted “Elsbeth”, and its renewal had us questioning its future for a while.
CBS is giving another attempt to their show, but with a slight twist: The first episode aired last Sunday, September 22nd, but you won’t see the show return next Sunday. Instead, there will be no new episode until October, and it won’t air on a Sunday night.
Instead of airing on Season 1, Episode 2 on its original date, Matlock will now air on Thursday, Oct. 17 instead. It will be positioned in the 9 p.m. ET/PT time slot, sandwiched between Ghosts and Elsbeth. This new timeslot is where you’ll find the Kathy Bates episode from now on.
Absolutely, we’re taking a hiatus around November or December for the winter season. You can anticipate our comeback some time in January. In the meantime, there will be several fresh episodes airing on Thursdays. Here is the upcoming broadcast schedule:
September 22: Episode 1 titled “Pilot
As an enthusiastic viewer, I feel it’s important to mention that schedules can sometimes shift, especially around Halloween when crowds are thick. For now, it’s uncertain whether CBS will take a break on that day. Historically, they haven’t, but we’ll have to keep a close eye as the date approaches for any updates.
Matlock will return on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 9/8c on CBS with new episodes.
