In a surprising turn of events on Matlock, a character previously thought to be gone has returned. Ellie Kingston (played by Marnee Carpenter), the daughter of Matty Matlock (Kathy Bates), is back, and her return fuels the show’s central plot. Matty is currently working undercover at the Jacobson Moore Law firm, determined to get justice for those she believes failed to help her daughter before her tragic overdose.
In Season 2 of Matlock, Madeline now teams up with attorneys Olympia Lawrence and Julian Markston. While her approach has changed, she’s still determined to bring Senior to justice for hiding crucial medical documents that could have helped her daughter. Even though Ellie is gone, she remains an important part of the story.
Matlock Brings Ellie Kingston Back From The Dead Using AI
As Matlock investigates how AI could potentially revive her, Ellie becomes increasingly central to the story. Meanwhile, Olympia’s team takes on a case that allows Madeline to explore history, and they collaborate with Vicki Carter (Yara Martinez), one of the co-founders of Monalta – a company known for its popular afterlife software.
I was totally blown away reading about this new technology! Apparently, you can now create an AI version of a loved one who’s passed away – like, a digital version you can actually video chat with. It was originally made by Vicki and Tessa Carter, and they intended it as a tool for therapists to help people with grief – Vanessa Rubio is one of the creators. But get this: Darren Radford, the CTO who actually built the software, wants to make it available directly to consumers as a subscription service. It’s a really interesting – and a little unsettling – idea!
The show continues to explore challenging social issues, reinforcing its idea that American companies should be accountable for what they make. This time, Matlock adds an emotional twist by reintroducing Madeline’s daughter through advanced afterlife technology. This development deeply impacts all the characters, both those still living and those who aren’t, and pushes the boundaries of the story.
When Olympia’s team builds a digital model of Tessa to help with their case, Madeline decides to do the same with Ellie. This is partly because Ellie’s son, Alfie, wants to communicate with his mother. But Madeline also has her own reasons for pushing the boundaries of the technology, especially as tensions rise with Alfie’s father.
What Ellie’s AI Means To Matlock’s Future
I’m really invested in this season! It’s wild to see Madeline bring back Ellie, seemingly just to get some guidance. And after Alfie finally connected with his dad, things are getting complicated with Joey being back in his son’s life. This episode, ‘The Future Is Nigh,’ is intense – we almost see Alfie’s father relapse, and it leads to a shocking discovery. It’s a lot to take in!
When Joey reveals he rejected a chance to get sober and be involved with Aflie, as Ellie had offered, Madeline and Edwin become deeply worried about whether their daughter would have approved of his presence in her child’s life. However, Madeline appears ready to ask her daughter directly what she wants, demonstrating a change in her own standards of what’s right.
At first, Madeline dismisses the afterlife software as nonsense, but she decides to try it herself after learning it can accurately predict people’s choices. However, creating a digital version of Ellie effectively brings the character back into the narrative, which could have major consequences.
AI could become a key element in the show’s storyline. The season 2 finale of Matlock ends with a surprising twist: Ellie appears on screen, becoming a real presence in the plot. Madeline might allow Alfie to choose if he wants a relationship with his father. Either way, bringing Ellie back is a groundbreaking moment for television dramas.
