‘Matlock’ actor David Del Rio fired after investigation into sexual assault allegation

David Del Rio is no longer on the show “Matlock” following an investigation into claims of sexual assault.

I was really shocked to hear that Javier Del Rio, who played Billy Martinez in the new ‘The Good Wife’ series with Kathy Bates, was let go. I’ve been following the show, and it’s a shame. CBS hasn’t said anything about it, though, which is frustrating for fans like me.

Following reports of a sexual assault investigation involving a co-star, actor Del Rio has left the series. He was a regular cast member, and his character will no longer be part of the show. The second season of “Matlock” begins this Sunday, but will go on a planned break in October and November after the first few episodes.

A representative for Del Rio did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.

After being nominated for an Emmy for her work on ‘Matlock,’ Kathy Bates has now become the oldest actress ever nominated for a leading role in a drama series.

Before landing a role on “Matlock” in 2023, Del Rio had already built up a strong television career with appearances in shows like “Maggie,” “The Good Doctor,” “The Baker and the Beauty,” and “The Troop.” He’s also been in “NCIS: Los Angeles,” the “Pitch Perfect” movies, “Southland,” “Law & Order: SVU,” and “Grease Live!” In addition to acting, Del Rio works as a producer and director.

The series “Matlock,” inspired by the original show starring Andy Griffith, features Kathy Bates as a woman in her seventies who returns to work as a lawyer to help her family. This year, Bates received an Emmy nomination for her leading role, making her the oldest actress ever nominated in that category.

The series also stars Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter and Leah Lewis.
