In a thrilling turn of events, Paper Rex emerged victorious over Rex Regum Qeon during the VCT Pacific 2025 Split 2 Grand Final in Chiba, Japan last weekend. In simpler terms, throughout the competition, PRX stood out as a formidable opponent across the board. While they were already a reliable contender in the area, their victorious streak at Masters Toronto gave them an unbeatable edge; they seemed almost invincible.

In spite of losing just one match against ZETA DIVISION, Paper Rex remained at the top of Group Omega.

During this time, RRQ was part of Group Alpha with the goal of defending their regional title. Despite showcasing their individual skills and maintaining a level of dominance, it was DRX who took the lead in the group. RRQ found themselves just behind in a strong second position.

As the playoffs commenced, Paper Rex convincingly defeated both T1 and TALON in the upper bracket, securing two straight 2-0 victories which earned them a spot in the grand final. On the other hand, an early loss by RRQ against T1 forced them to navigate through the lower bracket if they aimed to defend their back-to-back championship title in the Pacific.

They plodded along steadily, eliminating one team after another: Gen.G, DRX, T1, and eventually Talon. After completing five rounds of the playoffs, RRQ found themselves with a chance to retain their title against PRX, who had only contested two games in this stage.

The maps provided similar narratives, detailing a typical Pacific confrontation that affected four of them in a best-of-five series. In the initial two maps, Bind and Ascent, Paper Rex emerged victorious with scores of 13-8 and 13-7 respectively. During the first half of Ascent, Paper Rex held an impressive lead of 11-1!

It appeared as though Paper Rex (PRX) was about to win decisively, as even their coach, Alexandre “alecks”, offered a rare grin. The broadcast team quickly labeled this smile as alecks’ Ultimate moment. Furthermore, due to its recurrent display, they also referred to the desk slam as his distinctive skill or Signature ability.

In the match against Lotus, RRQ staged a comeback and emerged victorious, securing eight consecutive wins. The championship ultimately reached its climax in Haven. The decisive round that concluded the series shared a pattern with the rest of the series: it was intense, chaotic, and featured top-notch VALORANT play from both teams, with plenty of bloodshed and drama.

Ilya Petrov was recognized as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the finals, an honor he earned through exceptional play during all four matches under the alias Yoru.
