Critics hailed the show as a perfect example of a serialized drama, and praised Hugh Laurie for successfully making a generally unpleasant character relatable and sympathetic.

Viewers on IMDb have given it an average rating of 8.7 out of 10. Many fans praise it as a brilliantly written show, calling it a masterpiece and the best medical drama ever made.

One viewer pointed out that House follows a familiar medical formula: a patient arrives, doctors attempt to diagnose the illness, and it usually takes a few tries before they succeed. However, they emphasized that the show’s unexpected twists are what truly make it special and captivating.
