The highly anticipated psychological horror film, Exit 8, which critics have called a truly terrifying experience, just released its first trailer. Following a successful premiere last year, the film is expected to be a major release in 2026.
I recently checked out the Japanese movie based on the game The Exit 8, and it’s seriously creepy! It follows this guy, played by Kazunari Ninomiya, who’s stuck in this never-ending hallway, and it’s full of mystery and just feels really unsettling as he tries to find a way out.
Okay, so Neon just dropped a trailer for this horror movie coming to the UK on April 17th, and it looks seriously creepy! The main character, this guy called The Lost Man, starts getting totally disoriented as everything around him transforms into this confusing maze. I’m already hooked!

Okay, so I’m stuck in this game where I keep ending up in the same subway tunnel, no matter where I go. It’s seriously creepy, and I’ve started noticing things that just… aren’t right. The game keeps telling me to ‘turn back,’ like there’s a set path I’m supposed to follow. Then, this weird voice starts giving me instructions, and honestly, it feels like I’m trapped in some kind of digital nightmare. I’m not sure if I can even escape this messed-up version of the game.
The goal of his journey is straightforward: pay attention to anything unusual. If he finds something strange, he needs to turn around right away. Otherwise, he can continue. He must exit at gate 8, but even one mistake will reset his entire quest.

The film Exit 8, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May, has been highly praised by critics. Currently, 97% of reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes have given it a positive rating, based on 37 reviews.
RogerEbert.com described the film as a brilliantly unsettling story about accepting change and facing the fear of what might happen, while Psychocinematography praised it as captivating and visually stunning.
Dread Central called Genki Kawamura’s work a “masterful” and chilling story, a perfect example of No Exit Horror and potentially the greatest video game adaptation of all time. It’s a cautionary tale particularly effective for those who struggle with emotional expression.

Screen Daily also highly recommended the film, noting that “Exit 8” uniquely captures the feeling of playing a game, complete with a complex and puzzling set of rules. They predict it will become a popular cult classic, not just in Japan, but elsewhere as well.
Asian Movie Pulse praised Exit 8 as a clever and original film that excels with its simple approach. They noted it stands out as part of a recent wave of creative filmmaking.
Exit 8 is scheduled to be released in the UK on 17 April.
