Masterchef Star’s Secret Cancer Battle: Heartbreaking Exit After Premiere
A well-known Masterchef celebrity is obliged to depart from the culinary show following a cancer diagnosis.
In the 13th season, Pete Campbell finished as the runner-up, and later reappeared on the screen for the Back to Win series. However, his journey in the show came to an end following a diagnosis of Hodgkin lymphoma.
As the show went to air on Wednesday night, Pete was notably absent among the group of contestants.
The judge, Andy Allen, mentioned that the chef left the show due to private matters without providing any additional details about Pete’s medical condition or troubles.
‘Due to personal reasons, Pete is unable to continue in the competition,’ Andy told the group.
‘And we wish him nothing but the best.’
After the airing of the episode, Pete shared on Instagram that he had been diagnosed with cancer and was currently undergoing chemotherapy.
He didn’t have a chance to prepare meals for the judges, yet here’s a familiar saying: “When one has cancer, it’s time for chemotherapy.” This is how he phrased it in his writing.
‘A massive thank you to everyone messaging and checking in, you’re all so nice.’
He first revealed his cancer diagnosis in January alongside a selfie to social media.
‘New look for my cancer/chemo era… hodgkins lymphoma, you dog,’ he captioned the image.
He shared with Woman’s Day that the diagnosis came as a total surprise to him since he exhibited no signs or symptoms apart from swollen lymph nodes.
He shared that receiving the diagnosis came as an utter surprise, considering he hadn’t experienced any other symptoms and felt perfectly fine. In light of this, he inquired from the doctor if he could begin treatment only after the competition had concluded.
She shared with me that I might not survive, and it was at that moment that the gravity of the situation truly sank in, pushing aside any feelings of disappointment. After that, all I could think about was starting treatment immediately and recovering for my loved ones.
Pete said he had his first session of chemotherapy just one week after his diagnosis.
Hodgkin lymphoma arises within the lymphatic system, a system consisting of tubes and organs distributed across the body, primarily tasked with eliminating toxins and defending against infections.
In this particular system, the cells grow irregularly and create lumps or swellings close to the lymph nodes, which could appear in areas like the neck, armpits, or groin.
Damaged cells may no longer possess the ability to combat infections effectively, leaving patients at a higher risk for falling ill due to infections.
Hodgkin lymphoma can occur at any age, however, it predominantly impacts males aged between 20 and 40, as well as individuals who are over 75 years old.
