MasterChef Australia star sends fans wild with ‘Christmas Crack’ recipe and it only has four ingredients: ‘It’s amazing!’

Chef Khanh Ong has delighted his fans once more by posting the recipe for his popular ‘Christmas Crack’ dessert online.

A contestant on MasterChef Australia became a social media sensation in 2023 when they shared the recipe for a remarkably easy dessert.

Khanh perfected the holiday treat in 2024, then made some more improvements for 2025, and people are loving the new version!

Taking to Instagram, Khanh shared a video explaining how to make the viral concoction.

Khanh shared that she originally posted this recipe around seven years ago and it’s always been a hit. While she used to make it with Saladas crackers, she recently tried pretzels and believes they take the recipe to a whole new level.

He described the pretzels – which he suggested crumbling – as the foundation of the incredibly delicious dessert.

Khanh combined 200 grams of brown sugar and a generous amount of butter in a pot and heated it on the stove at 180 degrees Celsius for 5-7 minutes, until it was bubbly and looked perfect.

He mentioned that although the recipe uses a lot of sugar and butter, the quantities can’t be changed.

‘People always go: ‘Can I use less sugar?’ No, it doesn’t work,’ he said.

He drizzled the thick caramel over the pretzels and then put the tray in the oven.

Khanh then revealed the fourth ingredient: 360 grams of chopped chocolate, specifically Cadbury Old Gold.

‘Do not use fancy chocolate, do not use chocolate melts. It will not work,’ he said.

‘I think dark chocolate works the best here.’

After baking the pretzel and caramel mixture, Khanh drizzled it with chocolate. She then decorated the top – specifically, a crack in the treat – with colorful, festive M&M’s and a pinch of sea salt.

Always eager to try new things, Khanh quickly created another version, this time with Caramilk chocolate, coconut, and sliced almonds.

Honestly, I didn’t think anyone could improve on the original Caramilk, and he said the same thing! He was totally skeptical, but then… he tried it. And you could just see the shock on his face! One bite, and he was completely converted. I knew it was amazing, but seeing him admit it? Perfection.

‘Oh my God, Khanh exclaimed as he savoured the morsel.

‘That’s actually quite good.’

However, it was the dark chocolate version that, once again won Khanh’s heart.

He said they were ideal as small presents, and he planned to wrap them up and give them to his friends, family, and neighbors.

In the video description, Khanh listed the ingredients and instructions, and also shared some helpful tips for cooking at home.

‘I really love the dark chocolate version of this, you obviously can do what you want,’ he wrote.

Don’t take advice from strangers online, but in my opinion, white chocolate, milk chocolate, and even Caramilk are overly sweet and lack balance.

‘But do you. It’s still gonna be good.’

It seems the internet agrees, with Khanh’s video racking up an impressive 15,000 likes in 24 hours.

One fan excitedly commented, ‘The recipe I’ve been waiting for all year!’ and declared it was time to make their favorite holiday treat, calling it ‘totally addictive!’

Someone else shared a similar tip: ‘I made this and it turned out fantastic! It’s really important to bring the sugar and butter to a boil, then let it boil vigorously for about 3-4 minutes.’

‘I didn’t do that last year and it was a grainy mess.’

Honestly, I couldn’t have said it better myself! Someone else perfectly captured what so many of us feel: no cutting back on sugar, and definitely no skimping on butter. That’s real cooking, the kind I love and appreciate!
