MasterChef Australia star Poh Ling Yeow reveals shock response after ex-husband moved on with best friend

As a dedicated follower of Poh Ling Yeow’s inspiring journey through life, I find her unique perspective on love and relationships truly remarkable. Her experiences, as detailed in her recent interview on The Imperfects podcast, are a testament to her resilience and ability to move forward with grace.

Poh Ling Yeow revealed an surprising confession regarding how she moved on from her ex-husband’s separation and found romance with her closest friend.

Despite divorcing filmmaker Matt Phipps in 1999 at the age of 50, the MasterChef Australia judge has managed to keep a strong friendship with him. This remained true even after he married the judge’s former best friend, Sarah Rich.

On The Imperfects podcast this month, the well-known chef openly discussed her feelings upon learning that her ex-husband had started a new relationship with her former closest friend.

In 1989, when Poh was only 16, she wedded Phipps. On a recent podcast, she shared that it took her merely a few weeks to recover from the surprise of discovering they had become a couple again.

She requested some privacy for about three weeks, believing that things would improve afterward.

Hosts Hugh van Cuylenburg, Ryan Shelton, and Josh van Cuylenburg were surprised and inquired as to why she required just three weeks.

She replied, “I’m not sure, it appeared to be sufficient since we meet frequently.”

Poh then admitted she took a very detached, casual approach to the situation.

Based on my personal experience, when I find myself responding in a certain way to a situation, it’s often because I’ve been through similar experiences in the past. For instance, if I say “I would be choosing to react like this because I’ve already left the relationship… you know what I mean?”, it implies that I have moved on from a past romantic involvement and now approach the current situation with a different perspective. This experience shapes my reactions and helps me navigate through life.

After our separation, the time passed quickly for me. I became certain and clear-headed about my decision not to complicate things further by making a fuss.

Despite the unusual circumstances that left many finding it hard to adjust, Poh expressed her gratitude for the outcome.

In 2014, six years after they started dating, Poh got married to Jono Bennett. However, she announced their split in the beginning of 2021.

Following her divorces, Poh managed Jamface café in Adelaide alongside her former spouses and Sarah Rich, Poh’s ex-husband Matt’s new wife. Their unique “quadrant of love” business setup drew significant attention.

Previously, Poh had mentioned that her past relationships, including those where her exes were involved in running Jamface café with her before Jono departed from the business, were not a significant issue.

Last year, Poh told Daily Mail Australia: “People seem eager to create a sensational image, but for us, becoming friends and business partners was a smooth transition that feels completely normal.”

At Jamface café, we collaborate as a team and share equal responsibilities. It’s simply the outcome we’ve found ourselves in. Our thoughts and actions aren’t strange or unusual; they’re just a natural consequence of our experiences there.

“Many people may assume there’s a love triangle here, but I assure you, that’s not the case.”
