According to a police report, Swit was believed to have died of natural causes shortly after midnight on Friday. Her publicist confirmed this information to The Hollywood Reporter.

Swit hails from Passaic, New Jersey, where he was born on November 4, 1937. Later, he pursued his acting education at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts based in New York City.

She sharpened her skills as an actor while studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Swit gained fame for portraying the well-known character Major Margaret ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan in a popular TV show.

The actress received acclaim for her role on the series, and received two Emmys for her portrayal.

Over the course of her career on M*A*S*H, she was nominated for a total of ten Emmy Awards and made an appearance in nearly all of its eleven seasons. This means she starred in about 240 out of the show’s 251 episodes, keeping viewers entertained for most of its run.

M*A*S*H, originally, was based on Robert Altman’s 1970 movie and portrayed events during the Korean War. The series chronicled a group of American medical professionals and nurses stationed at a make-believe military medical facility.

Back in 1983, I had the privilege of being part of a television series that culminated with an unforgettable finale. To my amazement, this episode was seen by a staggering 105 million viewers, making it one of the most-viewed narrative TV finales ever aired.

The initial film by Robert Altman, titled “MASH”, was a witty yet gloomy production. It featured Donald Sutherland portraying Hawkeye Pierce, Elliot Gould as Trapper John McIntyre, and Sally Kellerman in the role of Hot Lips Houlihan. This film is an adaptation from the 1968 novel “MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors.

In the TV show, Alan Alda took on the character of Hawkeye, while Wayne Rogers portrayed Trapper John, and Gary Burghoff, who was Radar O’Reilly in the film, continued his role for the TV series.

The half-hour sitcom gained recognition for skillfully combining humor and drama, although Swit herself feels it was the wit that truly set the show apart.

Originally, people doubted if we could create a humorous show based on war, but we managed it. As she explained to First for Women last year, the key to M*A*S*H’s popularity was…

Swit remarked, ‘We used laughter and humor as a shield when we were surrounded by blood and handling bodies that should have been in school.’

As a die-hard enthusiast, I’ll confess they didn’t find humor in the very essence of warfare. Yet, they brought on board the funniest souls known to humanity to lend this tale credibility, and boy, did they surpass expectations!

Swit won two Emmys for playing Hot Lips, and had nothing but praise for the lauded series finale.

She expressed her pride by saying, “I was truly honored to contribute to the enchantment of the final program, named ‘Goodbye’, which was like the crown jewel, and M*A*S*H, being a significant part of American culture, was no exception.

1975 saw M*A*S*H being honored with a Peabody Award, and over the years, it accumulated an impressive 14 Emmy Awards from a total of 109 nominations.

In addition to Hawaii Five-O, Mission: Impossible (1970), Mannix, The Love Boat, The Muppet Show, Cagney & Lacey, Murder, She Wrote, Beer, Whoops! Apocalypse, and Beach Movie, Loretta appeared in several other shows.
