Maserati MC20 Breaks Autonomous Speed Record at Kennedy Space Center

As a thrilled admirer, I can’t help but share the electrifying news: The Maserati MC20 has carved its name into history books! It broke the autonomous world speed record at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This incredible machine, powered entirely by artificial intelligence, clocked an astounding 197 mph at the Space Florida Launch and Landing Facility (LLF), smashing the previous record of 192 mph set in 2022.

The unprecedented speed run was jointly achieved by the Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC), Politecnico di Milano, and Maserati, during the 1000 Miglia Experience Florida. This monumental test took place at the Kennedy Space Center’s long-known runway, which is famous for NASA’s Space Shuttle landings, and served as an exceptional platform for testing high-speed autonomous driving capabilities.

Significantly, the AI driver was created by PoliMOVE-MSU, a group originating from the Artificial Intelligence Driving Autonomous (AIDA) division of Politecnico di Milano. This project represents an important advancement in moving autonomous racing technology to regular vehicles, showing that AI is capable of managing extreme speeds with accuracy and stability.

According to Paul Mitchell, CEO of the Indy Autonomous Challenge, this accomplishment transcends mere speed; it’s about taking AI-driven software and robotics hardware to their maximum potential. By using a streetcar, we are facilitating advancements in high-speed autonomous transportation suitable for everyday life.
