Marvel’s New Uncle Ben Finally Speaks in the MCU – Here’s What He Said!

In an upcoming edition of the Disney+ prequel comic series, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” we get to see Uncle Ben‘s inspiring initial speech in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the very first time.

In January and February of 2025, the latest iteration of Spider-Man, titled “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” premiered on Disney+. This series offered fans a new perspective on Peter Parker’s early superhero days. Unlike the portrayal by Tom Holland, the Peter Parker in this series was distinct, leading to unique and unprecedented interactions with familiar characters.

The popular TV series starring Spider-Man from Our Hometown has been given another season, and fans have also received a comic book series set in the same world. This comic acts as a precursor to the Disney+ show, delving into crucial moments like when Peter acquired his powers, when he made the choice to become a hero, and other significant events.

Uncle Ben’s First Official Dialogue in the MCU

At present, four installments of Marvel’s “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” comic book series have been published, and the sixth one is set to be released soon. Interestingly, a sneak peek of issue #6 has already been unveiled (as reported by CBR), offering fans an early glimpse into the storyline before the full issue officially debuts.

In the sneak peek, a single page of the comic introduces the first words spoken by Uncle Ben (who has passed away in the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man universe) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he communicates with Peter from beyond his grave.

In the Disney+ animated series, Uncle Ben was depicted through a photograph, meaning he didn’t have any spoken lines. In the Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland, Ben was referred to and discussed, but he wasn’t physically present or vocal in any scene.

Ben is particularly renowned for being an inspiring figure, notably to Peter. Often, people associate the phrase “‘With great power comes great responsibility'” with Uncle Ben, so it wouldn’t have been surprising if he had shared this sentiment with Peter in the Spider-Man: Your Friendly Neighborhood Comics.

In the upcoming fifth issue, rather than uttering his famous line, he expresses to Peter that both him and May are extremely proud of him by saying, “We’re very proud of you.

Besides motivating Peter, Ben encourages him to stand firm for those he cherishes and never surrender.

I think it’s important for you to understand that what you’re saying isn’t accurate. It reminds me of how she felt when she lost me, and I wouldn’t want her to experience such pain again. During my final moments, what gave me solace was the fact that May and I were both incredibly proud of the person you are becoming. You’re a good man, Peter – someone who doesn’t shy away from fighting for those he cares about and never surrenders easily. Is that not true?

Later on, Peter expresses his longing for Ben. In response, Ben acknowledges feeling the same way and adds that Peter will forever remain a significant part of him.

I feel the same, dear one. I may not be physically present, but my spirit stays close to you. We are forever connected. So, show me that bond by demonstrating what we share.

The full panel from the upcoming comic can be seen below:

Since Uncle Ben didn’t mention his famous “‘with great power comes great responsibility’” quote during his conversation with Peter, there’s a chance that Aunt May might share this message with him later on.

Just like Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” experienced a similar scenario when a character was nearing death (for details about Aunt May’s alternate demise, read here), this iteration of the superhero might encounter a similar ordeal.

To clarify, the character you know as Spider-Man from the movies played by Tom Holland, isn’t the same one portrayed in “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.” These two characters hail from different universes, which means that the Uncle Ben you see in the Disney+ series and the comics is not the same as the Uncle Ben associated with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

How Did Uncle Ben Die in the MCU?

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the manner of Uncle Ben’s death remains somewhat enigmatic. While Spiderman, portrayed by Tom Holland, has discussed Ben, the details surrounding his demise have yet to be disclosed.

In the world of everyone’s favorite web-slinger, Spider-Man, the circumstances surrounding Ben’s demise remain shrouded in secrecy too.

In the upcoming fifth installment of the prequel comic, there are hints about potential events that transpired. During a conversation with Peter, Ben mentioned something significant about the end of his life using the phrase “‘As I was dying’.

Given that Ben had ample time to feel immense pride towards Peter and the circumstances suggest a prolonged event, it seems possible that Peter’s death was not an instantaneous occurrence. This would make it unlikely that his demise was caused by gunshot wounds, as Ben’s past deaths following such incidents have been swift.

In a heartbreaking twist, it seems that the Ben in my universe, my beloved Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s version of him, might have succumbed to an illness. This tragic event would have given him a chance to reminisce about his life and contemplate the path Peter was taking as he grew into the person he is today.

It’s plausible that, given the resemblance between Uncle Ben in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (Tom Holland’s universe) and Uncle Ben from “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”, Tom Holland’s Uncle Ben might have met a similar tragic end.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I can’t help but wonder if the Marvel Cinematic Universe will delve deeper into the fate of Uncle Ben, perhaps in future installments starring Tom Holland or maybe even in “Your Friendly Neighborhood” spin-off. However, hints about what befell Uncle Ben seem to be subtly woven into Spider-Man projects, keeping fans like me on our toes.

Spider-Man from Your Community, Issue 5″ is set for release on Wednesday, the 23rd of April. Meanwhile, you can start streaming the first season of the Disney+ show right now!
