After a series of movies with varying reviews following the conclusion of the ‘Endgame’ saga, Marvel Studios is reportedly looking to revitalize its approach. Sources suggest they’re planning to bring back the Russo Brothers, the directors behind some of Marvel’s biggest hits, to lead the charge.
The Russo brothers likely to continue after Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars
Joe and Anthony Russo are set to direct both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, and sources say they’re likely to continue working with Marvel Studios on future projects after those movies.
According to Alex Perez, a well-known insider at The Cosmic Circus, Marvel may bring back the Russo brothers after the Secret Wars event. They’re reportedly being considered for a supervisory role – informally called the ‘Marvel Parliament’ – to help guide the overall story direction for the next major phase of Marvel films.
Perez explained that they’re trying to learn from the Multiverse Saga, which attempted too many storylines and left several plot threads unresolved without a clear overall plan.
Marvel Studios is finding it difficult to match the success of the Infinity Saga, which was known for its strong, connected stories and emotional impact. Even Marvel’s head, Kevin Feige, has admitted they may have focused too much on making a lot of content and not enough on making it great.
As a big Marvel fan, I always understood the Multiverse Saga as a way for them to really expand their storytelling possibilities. It was about opening up a whole new playground where they could explore ideas and characters they wouldn’t have been able to in the main universe. It’s a shame though, because I heard that the pandemic really threw a wrench in their plans and forced them to release some projects before they were fully ready. It’s still exciting, but it would have been amazing to see everything unfold as originally intended.
The Russo brothers’ skills are particularly helpful in this situation. Having successfully managed many characters and complicated stories in the Captain America and Avengers movies, they’re perfectly suited to help plan a more unified future for the franchise. According to Perez, they can offer valuable advice on timing – what elements to introduce now and what to save for later.
Currently, there’s no official word on whether the Russo brothers will direct any Marvel movies after Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
