Marvel’s Longest Running Show Just Got the Axe

Disney+ has stopped regularly releasing new episodes of the Marvel Studios series “Marvel Studios’ Assembled,” implying that the show, which had been airing since 2021, has been terminated. When Marvel started extending the MCU to television in 2021 with the debut of “WandaVision,” another lesser-known Marvel show, “Marvel Studios’ Assembled,” was also launched. This documentary series offered fans a glimpse into the production process of the studios’ recent TV and film releases, with each MCU project from 2021 to 2024 receiving an episode.

2024 appears to be the final chapter for Marvel Studios’ “Assembled”, as no new episodes from this series have been made available on Disney+ in 2025, even though numerous new MCU projects were released during that year. The most recent “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” specials aired in 2024, focusing on characters like Deadpool, Wolverine, and Agatha Harkness. However, there has been no corresponding episode for shows such as “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”, “Captain America: Brave New World”, “Daredevil: Born Again”, or “Thunderbolts”, all of which have been recently released and usually get a “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” follow-up.

Usually, episodes of “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” are made available a week following the finale episode of an MCU Disney+ series or between 2-6 months after the cinema release of an MCU film. However, since neither “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” nor “Daredevil: Born Again” have received any episodes of “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” since their season finales, it appears that the documentary series (which is now Marvel Studio’s longest-running Disney+ series) might no longer be in production by the studio.

It became apparent towards the end of last year that the future of Marvel Studios’ Assembled might have been in question. This is suggested by Marvel Studios’ decision to distribute Marvel Studios’ Assembled: The Making of Agatha All Along for free, only on YouTube, instead of Disney+. Over the past eight months, Marvel has selectively released certain episodes of Marvel Studios’ Assembled on YouTube, such as The Making of Black Widow, The Making of WandaVision, and The Making of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

In late 2023, the production of Marvel Studios Legends, a brief series providing background information for upcoming MCU releases, came to an end. Notably, these episodes were made available for free on YouTube instead of being restricted to Disney+, suggesting that further profits from these episodes had dried up.

Will Marvel Studios’ Assembled Ever Return?

Despite no official announcement from Marvel Studios about the cancellation, there’s a chance that fresh episodes of Marvel Studios’ Assembled might still appear in the future.

Wakanda Forever” receiving recognition at the Black Reel Awards. On YouTube, the series has garnered significant attention as well, with “The Making of Agatha All Along” accumulating over a million views, despite not being released on Disney+ yet.

As streaming platforms grow more popular and physical media wanes, shows such as “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” become one of the few avenues for fans to explore the supplementary content that was previously exclusive to Blu-Ray or DVD versions. Consequently, these programs serve as invaluable resources for enthusiasts eager to delve into the production behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Given recent budget cuts across Marvel Studios (and its parent company, Disney), it’s possible that the series “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” might fall under these cost-reduction efforts. It could prove challenging to fund a documentary crew for these projects, especially if there’s no financial return expected from the episodes on Disney+.

There’s a chance that Marvel Studios could revive the series “Marvel Studios’ Assembled,” but they might save those episodes for their major productions, such as “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” or “Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars.” These are likely to draw the largest viewership.
