Marvel’s long-awaited X-Men reboot gets “really exciting” update

The upcoming X-Men movie has been in development for a while, but recent news suggests it will be great. The film will draw inspiration from two popular X-Men TV shows, promising a connection fans will appreciate.

The next X-Men movie will be directed by Jake Schreier, who also directed Thunderbolts. It’s currently planned to be released after Avengers: Secret Wars, likely sometime in 2028.

Schreier is currently writing the script with Lee Sung Jin, the creator of Netflix’s Beef, and Joanna Calo, a co-writer on Thunderbolts and co-showrunner of The Bear. Calo has also written for and executive produced popular shows like the comedy Hacks and Netflix’s BoJack Horseman.

Speaking with Collider, Schreier said: “We’re still developing.”

He mentioned they previously collaborated on the first season of Beef and Thunderbolts. Currently, they’re developing a new draft, and he’s thrilled to be working with that same talented team again.

Lee, the author, is a big fan of the X-Men, especially the character Gambit, who was recently portrayed by Channing Tatum in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine.

I really love the X-Men. My dad came to visit for my daughter’s birthday, and when I told him about it, he said, ‘That’s the best one,’ which meant a lot to me.

I have really happy memories of spending Saturday mornings with my dad. We’d usually wake up around 9 or 10am and watch every episode of the show, and I also loved reading the comics. I was a big fan of the character Gambit when I was a kid, so I have a lot of nostalgia for those times.

Channing Tatum is expected to return as Gambit in the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday. Several original cast members from the X-Men films will also be appearing, including Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 18 December.

The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can find it at newsstands or purchase it online.
