Marvel’s “Emotional and Wild” New MCU Special Is What ‘Punisher’ Fans Have Been Waiting For

Before Jon Bernthal appears in the upcoming *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* movie, he’s starring in his own special on Disney+. The project, which was filmed earlier this year, is expected to especially appeal to fans of his character, The Punisher. Although The Punisher had a two-season run on Netflix almost seven years ago, this will be the first time the character appears in a solo project officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And for those worried, it promises to be as intense and emotionally impactful as fans are hoping for.

During an appearance on the Phase Hero podcast, Marvel Studios’ Head of Television, Brad Winderbaum, hinted at the upcoming Punisher special. He mentioned it includes actors who have won Academy Awards and prominently features Jon Bernthal. The special, currently without a title, was co-written by Bernthal and director Reinaldo Marcus Green, known for the film *King Richard*. Winderbaum also shared that Robert Elswit, a cinematographer celebrated for his work on films like *There Will Be Blood* and *Nightcrawler*, worked on the project, describing it as a deeply moving and intense experience.

The film is currently in the editing phase. Jon Bernthal wrote the script, and Rei Green directed it. Robert Elswit, an Academy Award-winning cinematographer, handled the filming. It’s a visually stunning and powerfully acted piece, largely thanks to Jon’s performance.

More to come.
