Marvel's biggest missed opportunity is reportedly returning to the MCU

Marvel Studios excelled during their Infinity Saga, with only occasional hiccups along the way. For the most part, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s extensive narrative was a groundbreaking triumph, earning unprecedented box office success and praise from both audiences and critics alike.

Avengers: Endgame brought about an incredible culmination to that story, leaving fans feeling all kinds of emotions. The Avengers’ defeat of Thanos was a bittersweet moment as it came with the sacrifice of Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man. It was a heartbreaking conclusion that brought about the end of one era and the beginning of another.

One character was involved in that in a very effective manner, but there were almost two versions of that same character in that movie. Now, we might finally see the second in action according to a new report.

Katherine Langford reportedly returning as Morgan Stark in the MCU

As per the Marvel news source MyTimeToShineHello, Katherine Langford is expected to reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the mature Morgan Stark. While “reappear” may not be entirely accurate since her scenes were eliminated from Avengers: Endgame, a potential future appearance would technically mark her debut within the MCU. Isn’t it fascinating how Marvel keeps us guessing?

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Morgan Stark first appeared in “Avengers: Endgame.” After a time leap of five years, it was disclosed that Tony Stark and Pepper Potts had a daughter. During the film’s events, she was still a child, played by Lexi Rabe. Initially, an older version of Morgan was also planned to show up in a scene that didn’t make it into the final cut.

In this scene, Langford filmed alongside Robert Downey Jr., where Tony encountered his daughter at a relay station following the use of the Infinity Stones to vanquish Thanosity bliping the Blipped Thanos and his army out of existence. The purpose of this scene was to depict an older version of the character informing his father that they would be alright, after he had made the ultimate sacrifice to save half the universe.

The Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony, disclosed on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast that they chose to eliminate a particular scene because viewers found it puzzling following its viewing. In simpler words, the scene was taken out due to audience confusion post-screening, as explained by Anthony.

“What we realized about it was we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter. It wasn’t ringing to us and resonating with us on an emotional level, which is why we moved away from it.”

The scene featuring Langford Langford and Downey has been released as a bonus scene for Avengers: Endgame. Although these actors deliver powerful performances, many viewers felt that the scene lacked the intended emotional impact and could potentially disrupt the poignant mood following Tony’s finger snap.

It is yet unclear whether Langford will reprise her role in a future MCU project. However, with Robert Downey Jr. set to play the antagonist Doctor Doom in the MCU, there’s a high chance that Morgan and Pepper Potts (portrayed by Gwyneth Paltrow) could be brought into the storyline. Given that this new villain is reportedly a doppelganger of Tony Stark, it seems likely that his family would need to be informed about this development.

Another project that she could appear in would be Armor Wars. Don Cheadle is set reprise his role as Tony’s best friend, Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes, who sets out on a mission protect Iron Man’s legacy after his technology falls into the wrong hands. There is no greater legacy of Tony’s than his own daughter, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if she had a role in that movie.

Known for her remarkable talent, Langford has had a highly prosperous acting career. Her breakout role was as Hannah Baker in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, followed by appearances in films such as Love, Simon, Knives Out, and Spontaneous. She also starred in the 2020 Netflix series, Cursed. It’s exciting to think that she might soon have the opportunity to bring Morgan Stark to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well.
