Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame Star Dropped Out Over Pay

Previously, Carrie Coon, who is known for her role in The White Lotus, withdrew from the Marvel movie Avengers: Endgame because of disagreements over salary.

The actress, nominated for an Emmy and 44 years old, currently graces the screen in the third season of a popular HBO series, has previously embodied the character Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and was invited to reprise this role once more for Endgame.

Instead, after finding out there’d be no salary increase, Coon decided to leave the project. This information was shared by her husband Tracy Letts on The Big Picture podcast.

According to the Lady Bird actress, she was approached for the second film by Marvel, as she revealed.

She remarked, “Indeed, the initial film was the highest-grossing ever produced. Shall I expect further compensation from you?” To which they replied, “Regrettably, no. We will not provide additional payment.

Letts mentioned that his wife expressed, “If you’re not going to give me more money, then I don’t believe I’ll continue with it.

In reply, Carrie was informed, “You’re lucky to be a part of the Marvel Universe.” However, she chose not to participate.

‘Given that watching the movies wasn’t something we were willing to do, we didn’t plan to make a big fuss about this matter.’

DailyMail.com has reached to Marvel reps for comment.

In the movie “Avengers: Infinity War,” Coon assumed the character of Proxima Midnight, one of Thanos’ minions. She brought this role to life through both vocal performance and motion-capture technology.

The film continued the storyline from Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and featured performances by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and Josh Brolin.

The movie project garnered tremendous success at the box office when it premiered in cinemas, earning approximately 2 billion dollars worldwide, while its production cost was between 325 and 400 million dollars.

2019’s Avengers: Endgame was not only widely praised by critics but also raked in an impressive $2.799 billion at the box office.

In an earlier conversation on People TV’s Couch Surfing, Carrie mentioned that she declined the part in the sequel because of scheduling issues.

Coin (who is also known for her role in HBO’s The Gilded Age) has reminisced about her time within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and back in 2018, she shared with Entertainment Weekly how she landed her part in Infinity War.

Initially, it was a call for voiceovers, specifically for the character Proxima Midnight. Perhaps they contacted me due to their liking of my voice, or possibly because of my prior experience with motion-capture roles.

Coon stated, “In the past, I did motion-capture jobs for video games, right here in Madison, Wisconsin. Being an athlete during my college years, this highly physical work was incredibly enjoyable for me.

While filming, the actress was pregnant and remembered, “I traveled to Atlanta and performed motion capture, primarily focusing on facial expressions.

Absolutely, I should clarify that while I am involved, it’s primarily our talented group of animators who are responsible for the majority of the animation performance. I can’t claim all the credit for their impressive work.

The star went on, “However, what started as a voiceover role transformed into motion capture work, and all of a sudden, it hit me that I was part of the highest-earning film of the year.

Carrie confessed to the media that she wasn’t very well-versed in the Marvel series before landing her role in the film.

I’m quite fond of books and not very knowledgeable about the realm of comics, yet delving into this universe has been an enjoyable learning experience for me.

Reflecting on it now, I must say that discovering the influential individuals I interacted with in that computer-generated realm came as quite an eye-opener for me. It was truly enjoyable.

Regarding why she continued playing the character, Carrie shared with Collider: “However, I had experience with motion capture for video games during my graduate studies, and this was an extremely rare chance that many actors would be thrilled to have!

“Well, what could I possibly refuse such an offer? However, this experience was nothing like any other I’ve encountered before, which made it come with its own set of difficulties, as you might imagine.

Additionally, Coon mentioned, “Oh yes, people often ask me about it. In fact, I’ve signed more autographs for that film than for the entirety of my other projects combined.

Although the actress departed from the Avengers series, she has made significant contributions to other notable productions like Gone Girl, The Leftovers, The Gilded Age, and more recently, The White Lotus.

This third season of the show is set in Thailand and features actors such as Leslie Gibb, Michelle Monaghan, Jason Isaacs, Lalisa Manobal (known as LISA from Blackpink), Walton Goggins, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Coon assumed the character of Laurie Duffy, a corporate attorney and divorced woman, who got together with her old friends for a women-only vacation.

During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in March, the celebrity shared insights into the concept behind the upcoming third season and the overall storyline of the show.

She expressed her fondness for how challenging and uncomfortable her character’s friendship becomes in the series. She enjoys its ability to make people feel uneasy. She appreciates artwork that has an edge of discomfort, she clarified.

Later on, Carrie mentioned, ‘We seemed to grasp the role our plot served in the series this year. Some of the plots this season have been quite challenging and boundary-pushing.’

I believe our narrative stood out as the most identifiable, for it’s the part of the overall picture that everyone can connect to in some way.

The actress added, ‘Though the other aspects might seem unfamiliar, I believe everyone can relate to the concept of female friendships, either from personal experiences or through cultural understandings.’
