A recent photo from the set of the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, has given fans a first look at Thor’s new hairstyle. Chris Hemsworth has played the God of Thunder in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for 14 years, appearing in four solo films and four team-up movies, making his storyline one of the most extensive in the MCU. And it looks like he’s not finished yet, as production on Avengers: Doomsday has just wrapped.
As with most highly secretive Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, like the upcoming Avengers 5, details and on-set photos have been scarce. Much of the December 2026 film was shot privately at Pinewood Studios in London, meaning glimpses of the heroes and villains have been limited. This careful approach helps keep plot details under wraps, including the potential fate of characters like Thor, with even Chris Hemsworth suggesting his character could be killed off in a future appearance.
Now that filming for Avengers: Doomsday has finished in the U.K., exclusive merchandise made for the film’s crew has been spotted online.

The striking design showcased the most detailed look yet at artwork featuring the 28 cast members of Doomsday, notably including Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, who has once again opted for a short haircut.

Chris Hemsworth first appeared as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011 with long, flowing golden hair, giving him a majestic, almost mythical appearance.

Thor continued to sport his long hair when he joined forces with Earth’s mightiest heroes in The Avengers. He had the longest hair of any male Avenger, and only Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow had longer hair overall.

In Thor: The Dark World, Thor’s appearance was particularly striking, looking like a classic Viking warrior – a design many fans consider his best.

Thor’s look didn’t change much by the time Avengers: Age of Ultron started, as he began to learn about the Infinity Stones.

Throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor was known for his long hair. He finally cut it off on Sakaar, getting a shave from the Collector’s barber (played by Stan Lee). He kept this shorter style for Infinity War and is sporting it again in Doomsday.

After his defeat by Thanos, Thor went through a difficult period and neglected his physical health, skipping both haircuts and workouts.

By the time Thor: Love & Thunder was released, Chris Hemsworth had gotten back in shape and trimmed his beard, but he still kept Thor’s signature long hair.
Thor had a distinct hairstyle at the end of Thor 4, so it’s interesting to consider why he got a haircut for Avengers 5. Was it just a stylistic decision by the directors, the Russo Brothers?

The new merchandise revealed designs of several heroes as if they were facing the end of the world, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and other popular characters.
Avengers: Doomsday Is Bringing Back the Best Version of Thor
Many fans will likely be thrilled to see Thor with short hair again, a style he last sported in Avengers: Infinity War, which many consider his best appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The upcoming movie also reunites the team behind that successful portrayal – the Russo Brothers directing and Stephen McFeely writing.
This isn’t the only alteration to Thor’s appearance in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Chris Hemsworth’s trainer has revealed he won’t be as heavily muscled as he was in Love & Thunder, where he achieved peak physical condition for the role.
Rumor has it that Thor will be a key hero in the upcoming Doomsday movie, fighting in a massive, multiversal war. However, since Chris Hemsworth has played Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over ten years, many fans are worried that Doomsday or Secret Wars might be his last appearance as the character.
