Marvel Studios Unveils Best Look at Wonder Man’s New Phase 6 Costume

Marvel Studios artist Andy Park recently posted a detailed look at Wonder Man’s original costume on Instagram. The post explained the suit worn by Brent Willard, the actor who famously played Wonder Man in an older series of superhero movies.

The character was famously played by Willard, becoming iconic and defining a generation of superhero movies. Now, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II takes on the same role in a new version of the story. The show explores the challenges and significance of an actor following in the footsteps of a legend.

Concept art shows the costume’s development from different viewpoints and in various lighting setups, proving that the live-action version in Phase 6 of the MCU closely matches the character’s appearance in the comics.

Park’s comments came after the release of Wonder Man on Disney+, offering a glimpse into Marvel’s creative process for this part of Phase 6. The series explores not just superhero action, but also the deeper meaning and mythology behind superheroes. Park expressed his enthusiasm for the costume design, saying he didn’t expect to ever have the opportunity to recreate “this particular costume from the comics”.

For me, it’s all about the red visor sunglasses. They’re what really sell the costume and instantly give it that classic, old-school superhero vibe – and that’s exactly what makes it so cool! They just scream a different era of comics, and I love it.

In the show, Willard’s Wonder Man was a hugely popular superhero from decades ago. The costume perfectly captured that legendary status – it looked like something viewers within the show’s universe would have known and admired since childhood.

Best Look at Simon Williams’ Wonder Man Costume 

I was so excited to see the reveal of Brent Willard’s costume, and Andy Park’s work on it is amazing! But he also shared some concept art from Andrew Kim, showing us what Simon Williams’ superhero suit looks like now. It’s cool to see how different Kim’s final design is from Willard’s more old-school look – they went in totally opposite directions! He even showed us six other designs that didn’t make the cut, which was a fun bonus.

The Williams Phase 6 suit is a black, sleeveless tactical vest with striking crimson accents that create a large ‘W’ on the chest. It moves away from the previous green and gold design, resulting in a look that’s both practical like a combat uniform and heroic like a superhero costume.

Okay, let’s talk about the costume design. I really appreciated that the hero’s sleeveless look conveyed power without feeling too armored, which is a nice change of pace for the MCU. And it’s the little things, you know? The designer, Kim, really nailed it with the vest – that structured V-neck and the flash of deep red underneath? It just elevates the whole look and makes it visually striking. It’s a subtle detail, but it makes a huge difference.

As a film buff, I really appreciate the details in this suit. The red ‘W’ logo isn’t just painted on – it feels like it’s been built up, layer by layer, with quilted panels. It’s almost three-dimensional! And the way that red subtly spreads out from the emblem, blending with the black, is just brilliant – it unifies the whole design without being too flashy.

The distinctive forearm bracers are a key part of the design. Made from black leather with a textured, crosshatch pattern and red stripes on the inside of the wrist, they create a visually interesting detail on the lower arms.

The suit’s arm guards stop just below the elbow – long enough to make a statement, but not so bulky that they ruin the sleek design. Black pants and boots finish the tight-fitting outfit. It’s one of the most impressive costumes we’ve seen in the latest phase of Marvel movies.
