A recent rumor suggests Marvel has found a new actor to become the face of the MCU, much like Robert Downey Jr. was with Iron Man. RDJ’s portrayal of Tony Stark anchored the early years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in three Iron Man movies and four Avengers films. His absence has been noticeable during the current Multiverse Saga, and he’s even slated to return in Phase 6’s Avengers: Doomsday as Doctor Doom – a role that will see him play a villain. Since Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has struggled to establish a consistent lead, with many heroes appearing only briefly. This lack of a central figure has been a key weakness of the Multiverse Saga.
A popular rumor circulating on X, shared by insider MyTimeToShineHello, suggests that Sadie Sink will be the central character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming ‘Mutant Saga,’ planned to span Phases 7 through 9 after Avengers: Secret Wars. The idea is that her character would become a defining face for this new three-phase storyline, much like Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man was for the earlier Infinity Saga, providing a much-needed anchor for the MCU after the Multiverse Saga.
Viewers will first see Sadie Sink’s latest role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31st, though details about who she’s playing are still a secret. However, many believe she’ll be portraying the well-known X-Men character, Jean Grey.
Earlier reports indicated that Jean Grey and Cyclops will be the main characters in Marvel Studios‘ upcoming X-Men reboot. The movie is being directed by Jake Schreier, who also directed Thunderbolts, and is currently expected to be released in 2028 as part of Marvel’s Phase 7 plans.
While the studio hasn’t made any official casting announcements yet, rumors are circulating about who will play the X-Men in the upcoming reboot. Two well-known actors are reportedly being considered for the role of Cyclops, the team leader and Jean Grey’s love interest.

Why Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey Is the Perfect Lead For the MCU’s Mutant Saga

A source previously reported that Sadie Sink signed a deal with Marvel for five movies, with the possibility of also appearing in TV shows. Sink will first appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie and is expected to return for Secret Wars. This leaves three remaining movies from her contract potentially to be used for the upcoming Mutant Saga.
Fans are confused about reports that Jean Grey might appear in the upcoming Spider-Man movie, especially since Marvel Studios is also rebooting the X-Men. However, introducing a powerful character like Jean Grey through the popular Spider-Man franchise could be a smart way to launch the next big storyline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
To make the most of the X-Men’s story, Marvel should give Jean Grey and Cyclops equal roles, and build their romantic relationship into the plot. Finding the right actor to play Cyclops (Scott Summers) who has good chemistry with Sadie Sink will be a challenge for the studio.
Although the current phase of Marvel movies is still happening and Doctor Doom hasn’t become the villain yet, sources say the studio has already picked two mutant villains for the next big storyline. It’s believed Apocalypse and Mister Sinister will be the main villains in the future, but the emphasis on Jean Grey suggests another major conflict might be on the way.
One of the most well-known storylines featuring the X-Men involves a hero connecting with the powerful Phoenix Force, which ultimately corrupts them. While ‘The Dark Phoenix Saga’ might seem like a fitting conclusion to the overarching Mutant Saga, its parallels to the story of Scarlet Witch in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ and the fact that it’s been adapted for film twice already by Fox, could make it less likely to be used again.
