Marvel Studios’ Next Disney+ Series Gets Surprise Early Release
As a diehard Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to share that Marvel Studios has sprung a surprise by moving up the release of their upcoming Disney+ series. The much-anticipated “Eyes of Wakanda,” produced by Ryan Coogler, is now set to plunge us back into the captivating realm of the Black Panther. This four-part animated anthology will delve into the tales of various Wakandan warriors from across history. Originally slated as the grand finale for Marvel’s summer lineup, the series was expected on Disney+ on August 27th. However, we can now watch it earlier!
I’ve been keeping up with the updates, and Marvel Studios has adjusted their release timing. It’s a bit of a mystery why Kevin Feige and the MCU team made this decision, but it seems to be connected to their remaining 2025 schedule and potential releases alongside it, such as the DCU series “Peacemaker.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the release date for “Eyes of Wakanda” has been advanced from August 27 (a Wednesday) to August 1 (a Friday).
It seems unlikely that many Marvel enthusiasts are prepared for an unexpected change, as the series was previously scheduled for a release in late August. But it now appears that this may not be happening anymore.
The Marvel Studios storyboard artist Todd Harris’s “Black Panther” spin-off series was originally scheduled for a late 2024 release, but has been pushed back to 2025. Earlier, the release date was set for August 5, then changed to August 27, and now it has been brought forward to August 1.
Harris shared with Entertainment Weekly that the process leading up to the release was a mix of “up and down moments,” but he’s thrilled to eventually share the series with the fans.
As a movie enthusiast, the rollercoaster ride of emotions I’ve experienced – the thrill of anticipation leading up to release, the satisfaction when we finally complete a project, the unpredictability of public perception, and the excitement of discussing all aspects… It feels like I’ve been caught in an endless series of emotional waves. Frankly, I’ve become so accustomed to this exhilarating yet draining cycle that sometimes it all just seems too familiar, leaving me a bit numb.
Titled “Eyes of Wakanda,” this four-part animated series delves into the world associated with Marvel’s Black Panther character. In this new production, we follow an array of Wakandan warriors across time, as they embark on a mission to retrieve Vibranium artifacts that were pilfered from the enigmatic African nation.
The upcoming series, featuring Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, and Patricia Belcher, is produced by Todd Harris, a former Marvel storyboard artist known for his work in “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Endgame,” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Additionally, Ryan Coogler serves as the executive producer. Beginning on Friday, August 1st, all four episodes of “Eyes of Wakanda” will be available on Disney+.
Why Was Eyes of Wakanda Moved Again?
The release schedule for Eyes of Wakanda by Marvel Studios has been puzzling, as the date was initially set for August 5 this year, then postponed to August 27, and now rescheduled again to August 1. It seems that Marvel is uncertain about how to handle the series and keeps moving it around aimlessly.
As we approach August 1 in less than a week, it seems that Eyes of Wakanda is firmly committed to this date, yet the path leading up to it remains just as puzzling.
Viewers might begin questioning the reasoning behind the schedule change now that a specific date is set for “Eyes of Wakanda” to air in early August. It’s worth noting that there isn’t another major Marvel, Star Wars, or Disney production scheduled to air around the same time, on August 27th, which could potentially impact “Eyes of Wakanda.
The upcoming Disney+ releases following “Eyes of Wakanda” are “LEGO Star Wars: Rebuilding the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past” in September, and “Marvel Zombies” in October.
It’s been suggested that this action might not be connected to a program falling under the Disney banner, given that DC Studios, fresh off the release of Superman in theaters, is set to premiere the second season of its own superhero TV show, Peacemaker, airing weekly from August 21 onwards.
Perhaps, this move was to get out of the way of the John Cena-led show.
