Marvel Studios Just Unveiled the MCU’s First ‘Young Avengers’ Team Roster

Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU) has officially introduced its first Young Avengers team in their latest Disney+ series. Over the course of the Multiverse Saga, Marvel Studios has been deliberately building towards this by showcasing a new generation of heroes, including characters like Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), Wiccan (Joe Locke), and Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton).

As a Marvel fan, I’ve been hearing whispers for ages about the Young Avengers finally assembling within the MCU, and it felt like 2023’s *The Marvels* finally started to deliver on that promise. The post-credits scene, with Kamala Khan approaching Kate Bishop and hinting she’s “putting together a team,” was a huge moment for those of us hoping to see these characters unite. We haven’t seen what comes of that initial meeting yet, but the buzz is that a *Young Avengers* series on Disney+ is actually gaining momentum – and I, for one, am incredibly excited!

Look, everyone’s been clamoring to see the Young Avengers – or maybe the Champions, as they’re now being called – finally team up in the main Marvel universe. Well, while we wait for that, *Marvel Zombies* actually gave us a first look at these characters together, in a different reality, and it was fascinating to see how they bounced off each other. It definitely gave us a preview of their potential team dynamic, even if it was under…unusual circumstances.

Before the events of *Marvel Zombies*, three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s newest heroes were already working together as a close-knit team, navigating a world after the apocalypse.

Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan)

Iman Vellani, who quickly became a fan favorite as Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will return to lead the Disney+ series in 2025.

The Ms. Marvel series has significantly altered her powers compared to the comic books. Instead of stretching, she now creates objects made of hard light. These powers are surprisingly violent for a Disney+ show, allowing her to fight through monstrous creatures – even breaking apart an undead monster’s stomach and destroying the head of an undead Namor.

Out of all the Young Avengers, only Ms. Marvel appears throughout the entire Disney+ series. She joins a new team of survivors and is specifically hunted by Elizabeth Olsen’s villain from *Marvel Zombies* for a frightening purpose.

Hawkeye (Kate Bishop)

Hailee Steinfeld returns as Kate Bishop, playing a significant role – her biggest since the Disney+ series *Hawkeye*. She uses her archery talents to fight zombies as part of a team made up entirely of women.

In *Marvel Zombies*, Kate Bishop offers a unique advantage to the surviving heroes. They’re based out of her childhood home, which her mother, Eleanor, had thoughtfully prepared with plenty of supplies, always anticipating difficult times.

While exploring New York City, the team often ran into Clint Barton, Hawkeye – a zombie version of the superhero. Even as an undead being, he remained a skilled archer and frequently targeted the heroes.

Ironheart (Riri Williams)

Dominique Thorne is back as Riri Williams in the Disney+ series Marvel Zombies, not long after her first appearance. In this alternate universe, Riri doesn’t yet have a complete Ironheart suit, and she’s facing different challenges than the ones she left behind on her main Earth – she isn’t dealing with the aftermath of her deal with Mephisto there.

Rounding out the young hero team in Marvel Zombies, Riri Williams is the strategic leader, having designed and built a zombie-proof vehicle called the U.S.S. Uhura. Unfortunately, it wasn’t strong enough to withstand the dangers of the Valley of the Broken Gods.

During the apocalypse, Riri proves to be incredibly resourceful. She’s even managed to take control of Iron Man’s old suit and use its AI, FRIDAY, which fans will remember from the *Spider-Man* films and will see again next year in *Vision Quest*.

The MCU’s Young Avengers Will Add More Superheroes

The young heroes from the *Marvel Zombies* series are strong candidates to become the newest members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They could potentially join the Avengers for the first time in projects like *Avengers: Doomsday*, *Secret Wars*, or the Disney+ series *Champions*.

When Kamala Khan asked Kate Bishop to team up, she surprisingly asked, “Did you know Ant-Man had a daughter?” This suggests they’ll soon be recruiting Cassie Lang, who goes by the hero name Stature.

Joe Locke’s character, Billy Maximoff, could bring a unique magical element to the team, and his brother Tommy is also set to appear in the Disney+ series *Vision Quest*. As Wiccan and Speed, the Maximoff brothers are strong contenders for the final two spots on the team, bringing the total number of members to six – the same as the original Avengers.
